In fear of getting lambasted by certain posters again. Hypothetically how will you feel when Foden loses 'his' right wing position if/when Messi signs? Because Foden won't be playing centrally very often at all with Kev in the team, the only position where Messi fits is RW.

Pretty sure I just watched 90minutes of Foden playing on the left wing.
Also you could play Messi just off the striker and have to holding midfielders. Foden on the rw swapping with Messi during the game to keep teams guessing.

I think off all the arguments as to why Messi wouldn’t work to say he would take fodens place is a weak one.
You think Foden wouldn’t just be buzzing to meet Messi let alone play with the bloke??

That's totally ignoring the fact we clearly didn't play a few of the regular starting 11 in the positions they would ordinarily play...

Pep is clearly playing a double pivot so It doesn't leave much to play with in midfield. Kev isn't getting moved out of a central position whilst I have a hole in my arse so it only really leaves space for Messi/Foden/Silva coming inside from wide and roaming but there is literally no room unless we plan on shipping one of Sterling/Foden/De Bruyne, none of those calibre will be happy having Messi here but not playing imo.

Iv seen Foden play on the left a few times to be fair.

If we signed Messi then maybe he would go back to a single holding midfielder?
Or perhaps he would play a holding player, KDB slightly deeper and then Messi as a 10.

Messi is will be 34 so there is potential that he wouldn’t play every week.

There is lots of options and I’m sure pep would make it work, next season will again need lots of rotation when all our players come off the back of the euros.

I’d say, fuck me, Messi is playing for City!!
Phil can and will look after himself. I don’t know why anybody would ever mention the two players in the same breath.

Because one is the future of our Club? Well, he will be if he isn't forced to leave for game time! He's probably the most consistent attacking player in the squad.

As a club and fan base we've been obsessed with getting our academy lads as starters for years, yet are now seemingly willing to abandon that. It's just frustrating when you have followed some of these lads for nearly 10 years at multiple levels of football and just when you think they have broken in, there's a good chance they won't be able to.

He isn’t leaving. He will leave this club in 15 years being the most decorated player in our history.
Messi will be a footnote in that history.

Of all the shite I've read on here, "Foden will leave if we sign Messi" is up there.

Right now I'm more concerned about finishing top 4. We laboured to take down a poor team tonight.

I didn't say that if it is aimed at me, if people learnt to read rather than jumping on anything they disagree with this place would be much better, the last few days has taught me, if you don't agree with the majority you may as well not bother posting.

I'm saying nothing more on the matter, hopefully it turns out to be the best signing we've ever made as a club and I sincerely mean that.

Signing Messi will divide opinion until he signs for City. If he does? Once he $igns for City, every City fan, tourist, day-tripper, glory hunter, Messi fan, will be scrambling to get a ticket for his 1st match at the Etihad.

The media exposure for the club will be on a global scale. It will be like no other player transfer. And that includes Neymar to PSG, and Ronaldo to Juve.

Get it done, City!
These are the reasons I don't want Messi and the club do! Signing a player approaching 34 is more to boost the brand, shirt and merch sales and bigger sponsors, than for footballing reasons.

Yeah, you did say that.

Yeah, you did say that.

Again, another bandwagon jumper. I didn't say "Foden will leave if we sign Messi"

I said "If he isn't forced to leave for game time" simply put at 20 years old, an England International level player who will most likely get left out of his club side because the overstocking of players in positions he can play that are more marketable (KDB, Sterling, Aguero, Messi), also then won't get picked to play for England. If you think him and his agent will be happy sat on the bench, fine by me. We've done this before with Sancho and we will continue to do it if we don't look forwards as a club.

He would be the best player on the pitch whenever he played for us so not sure how you can come up with football reasons being a problem.

You say that like the 2 reasons are total opposites when they actually go together...

Messi would boost the brand and boost the finances - both of which you need to sign the best players in the world

I agree that Messi in 2020 / 2021 is not the same player as 10 years ago (obviously) but he can still turn on the magic, create / score goals and create a buzz like no other player can... as a short term measure I can't see much wrong with it *if* he comes to City?
The only concern would be the dressing room - would the existing players be buzzing with Messi in the squad or would it cause problems????

Although he is currently still regarded as the world's best player there is no guarantee a 34 year old will be successful in the world's toughest and most physical football league. And even if he is for how long, 1 or 2 seasons? I've seen Messi play at his peak twice for Barca. I don't want to watch him well past his best like Yaya became.

"Foden will leave if we sign Messi"
"If he isn't forced to leave for game time"

Sorry, that's too fine a distinction for me, you're just waffling now.

And BTW, "We've done this before with Sancho" didn't happen. He was around 16 years of age when he decided to leave because we wouldn't guarantee game time in his offered contract ( a contract that would have made him one of the highest paid teenagers in the world). But why let facts get in the way...

Bandwagon jumper my arse.

If we got 2 seasons out of him then personally I’d be absolutely delighted.
I think the idea that the Premier league is the toughest and most physical is a little bit over egged and watching games over the last 6 months without the crowds has shown that more than ever.
He will cope.
