The Scottish Politics thread

I thought Brexit was supposed to be done. That’s what we, as a nation, voted for. Now you’re saying it’s going to go on for years.
Who’d have guessed.
Well yeah it’s been a shit show and hence why I voted remain, which I feel I’ve been justified in doing so.

My only point is Scotland should have its vote when we’ve left for a period of time and things have settled down.

That way they actually know what the vote will mean, what their options are I should say and it isn’t detrimental to the UK‘s trade negotiations.

There’s no point turning one shit show into another one.

What happens if Labour get in in 2024 and the party is aligned to Scotland’s politics?

Just goes to show how zealous the SNP nationalists are.

In the middle of a pandemic, right in the middle of the UK's most important trade negotiations for God knows how long, had a referendum in 2014 that they lost, and they're still banging on about independence after saying it was a 'once in a generation vote'.

Give it a rest.

Yeah, I was proud to be British and Scottish too mate. The last couple of years have changed that. Put simply, all the difficulties and challenges that independence would undoubtedly bring look more attractive to me than being dictated to by the Tory party for the next 30 years.

I don't want to be dictated to by the Tory Party for the next 30 years but there are other parties you can vote for that don't involve cutting off your nose to spite your face which separatism will almost certainly do.

You can't blame them really. It's their only reason to exist - if they ever got it they would just become irrelevant like ukip after brexit and Scotland would realise that the Sturgeon household has by delivering 'independence' actually concentrated national power in one household to an extent last seen by the Ceaușescu family in Romania.

Are there? A party capable of turfing the Tories out of government in Westminster? What party would that be then mate?

Still nonsense, they are still the most popular party of government for Scottish voters, nothing to do with whether those voters support independence or they don't. Simply because they want independence doesn't mean they are only about independence.
Keep comparing them to UKIP and ignoring facts doesn't make it any more true.

they would become just a slightly left of centre political party contesting seats with the current opposition Parties. Scottish Labour, Lib Dem and Scottish Greens. Scottish Tories are are already rumoured to be talking about cutting ties with their English brethren and no doubt would retain the Unionist badge. Sounds healthy enough to me.

Starmer under Labour is exactly the same politics that goes down well north of the border.

If it was all about ousting the Tories then a vote for Labour in 2024 would and could make things very interesting.

I get the impression it’s a nationalist thing now and unfortunately, I’m sorry to say to you, they do resemble UKIP, just a left of centre version.

They will if they have a bigger presence in England and smaller operations in Scotland.

Ive heard it from the horses mouth that one big bank wouldn’t have any Scottish operations if they leave the UK.

There’s a huge number of British businesses with some of their operations in Scotland and it’ll soon change if Scotland leaves the UK.

Don’t forgot that per population Scotland has more spent on it in terms of education, healthcare etc. And when they have to fund their defence and their public services themselves, that deficit which is already too high to join the EU will sky rocket - meaning a huge delay to joining the EU.

Even if it is fast tracked, it’ll be years not months. The quickest you can possibly do it is 3 years, based on past applications, this means for potentially a very significant time Scotland will be out of the UK and EU. They aren’t meeting the requirements to join in terms of deficit and debt now, never mind if all of the above happens, whilst taking their fair proportion of UK debt.

The only reason someone like you (and me), as a remainer, would support it is if you just hate Tories, there’s no way you can look at Brexit and think bad and look at Scottish independence and think good.

It’s worse than Brexit, it’s a bigger change and a bigger economic issue.
The horses mouth you say ,sure you were standing at the right end lol

Would that be Nat West, RBS up there

Goes on a bit doesn’t she?
Saw her being interviewed on GMTV. The contrast with the subsequent interview with George Useless from the government was striking. She actually answered questions and took responsibility. I can understand people voting for her.

What? Surely not. Farage in a kilt isn’t she, according to most of the English that post on here.

Re Nationalism she very much is although domestically she has my vote.

Let's be honest here though she has stabbed Salmond in the back, her lies are now being exposed and coming back to haunt her and the man who took her under his wing is going to have his revenge.

Which is good but fuck me she went on a bit

If we are being honest, Salmon is an odious English hating prick that gave Scots a bad name. I would not piss on him if he was on fire.

That it is the Scottish Tories that are gleefully spreading muck about Sturgeon should be no surprise at all. The bottom line is I care not a fig when she heard about the allegations. I'm sure there were daily stories about his behaviours. The SNP and Scottish politics would be well rid of his malign influence.

I have zero love for the man but she has been caught stabbing him in the back and then not being truthful about it.

Her opponents and Salmond himself will have their revenge.
