Let Darwin’s law do it’s work.
Having had Covid and being confirmed I have the antibodies I luckily got through it, however it wasn't pleasant and I'd do anything to avoid catching it again. Its not an upgraded flu for those in the vulnerable group the advice to isolate is 100% correct.

Darwin's law is a natural process (how I read it) Covid is man made and is destroying lives and families, there's nothing natural about it, do anything you can to protect yourself, your families and friends.

How’s COVID man made?

Not entirely sure there’s need for such alarm.
A careful read of the piece informs that 80% of people would now take the vaccine, which would be a success, but I suppose the headline writer has achieved their purpose.
Hysterical scaremongering has been the default position of most of the UK media during this crisis and the Guardian has been more guilty than most. The information on this forum (which has often come from real people working in the NHS and Science) has been mostly better informed than anything in the press. Thanks to Ric for keeping us ahead of the curve.

Been wondering if there is something different about this second wave. Has the virus become more infectious or deadly. The 1918 19 spanish flu second wave was different and more deadly than the first apparently. In this pandemic alot of countries have been worse hit second time round. You can kind of understand that in countries that have come out of a strict lockdown and then a second less strict lockdown. But you cant really apply that logic to countries that havent really had a total lockdown such as Sweden and Brasil. My understanding is that even in both these countries they have tried to implement more control measures but cases have still risen inexplicably after a steady and long decline. Surely these second surges just cant be down to just countries doing more testing.
This wave was predicted to be smaller but longer as we are supressing it now when at the beginning we went into lockdown too late

i understand and agree with you, but how does the above rationale explain the big second surges in Sweden and Brasil. Even in Germany, the country in Europe which has dealt with covid the best, they are really struggling to deal with a massive second wave.
Sweden and brazil went for herd immunity and it failed , they were not ready for a second wave

I am not following you , just catching up

Wales data is even worse today. Big trouble there.

The highest number of cases EVER on a Sunday from any of the three nations other than England.

Scotland with a higher population rarely has exceeded that number on any day.

1916 cases and 14 deaths.

This is a warning to the rest of the UK of where things can go if we stop being vigilant in the next three months until the vaccines hopefully save the day.

Does it really matter if someone eats their food and stays after for an hour? It’s standard in a restaurant to get the table for 2 hours what’s with all the faux outrage? People are trying to make a living under the current rules, fair play I say they are not breaking them so good luck to them.
Yes because transmission is more likely indoors and length of time is important as well, without a mask , you should eat and leave , why do you still need it explaining

Scotland data rather better:

5 deaths

643 cases at 5.2 %

951 in hospital (up 6) (first rise in a while)

62 on ventilators (down 2)

N Ireland data also continuing to trend up though in cases less terribly than Wales. But deaths still high.

Deaths 11 (up from 2 last wk)

All in hospital. 4F / 7M 6 aged 60 - 79, 6 ages 80+

Cases 419 (up from 351 last wk)

At 16.8% positive

These numbers show where England could go if we do not take the next few weeks more seriously.

A third wave looks to be mounting in Wales and N Ireland and circuit breaking seems not to be enough to stop it.

England fared better but this kind of worrying uptick could tragically follow if we do not get the next 2 - 3 months right.

All media sources have had their moments, but it’s up to all of us to filter their information carefully and to relay things to others in proportion. With such a broad base and range of poster, this forum has been commendable in that respect.

England hospital deaths are a bit of an improvement though, happily.

195 - down from 208 last week. Though 37 from NW which is a rise from last week' 32 and so a rise in % terms too. A bit of a concern as NW tends to underreport at weekends. This is Saturday data, of course.

I am seeing nothing at all that is changing my mind about an absolute catastrophe ahead.

Whilst people should be able to use their own common sense to see whats needed sadly they dont and wont. More now than ever before given we are coming up to Xmas. Its truly a magical time of year so much so that because it is Xmas you will be ok going in crowded shops and supermarkets as long as you wear a mask! Wearing a mask is going to do more harm than good in December because idiots think its an infallible shield when infact by and large it does next to fuck all unless its the correct mask and worn correctly which virtually nobody does.

Yes indeed just because its Xmas Covid has agreed to not infect anyone doing Xmas shopping nor dining in pubs or attending parties....but only because its XMAS mind. Even the government say its fine.....

All this a few weeks before we can get to a place where live is much better due to the vaccine how fucking stupid can you honestly get?

The question is why have Brasil and Sweden had a second wave? When they havent changed anything habit wise. My point is the virus may have changed??

I said once before what we should have done. Though I know it was never going to happen.

Tell people treat Christmas as a virtual one and a religious festival - NOT a holiday this year - with no easing of restrictions.

But announce that a new bank holiday will be created as soon as it is clear we are in a position to do so. Maybe March or April.

Call it Thanksgiving as that was created to give thanks for being rescued in the US and involves a turkey dinner.

Just as the end is in sight inviting everyone to party, hug and kiss because of dates in a calendar is beyond mad.

Though incredibly hard to stop and popular.

Just all but certain to cost more than it gains in both tragic lives lost and finance when we need to lockdown through Jan and Feb to pay for it.

the virus hasnt changed enough to cause it , is it winter , i suppose it is in sweden but i dont know about the other . Truth is covid needs very little invitation to spread , it just takes one cluster caused by a visitor and it 's off and they have no defence because they went with herd immunity

Is there something different about the demographics of who is getting it in Wales? Is it skewing older there or is it the presence of certain co-morbidities? Or is the amount of deaths consistent with the amount of cases when compared to the rest of the UK?

I don’t particularly like Christmas or turkey, could we call it going out and getting leathered day ?
