Certainley was if you do or say nothing you can't be blamed. That's all Johnson could attack him for and he fucked that up when he picked on a Labour MP who didn't.

Under Patel's new regime, If Johnson faces an enquiry into his disastrous handling of the Covid pandemic and he is found guilty will he be deported to the country of his birth?
Or will it again be one rule for the Tory elite and one for everyone else.
Our Prime minister folks...
That's not it. People like him deliberately flaunt bad manners. The poor don't know how, the middle class try to impress, and nouveau riche do the right things. But if you're really from the right people, because of daddy and your connections, you make a show of bad behaviour, bad attitude. It proves the point - you don't have to try. Because you can't get kicked out. You've no one to impress, because you'll always be in the top echelon who everyone is trying to impress. Whatever happens, you'll always have the ear of your childhood mates, who are equally unshiftable. And he'd like to think he is the one with the breeding and manners...............
Amongst your flowery rhetoric you make some brilliant points. Britain is still a society where class and status matter and the working class will show deference to their supposed betters as the class system encouraged. Bow to your master poor Serf and behold the behaviour of the noble Baron, for it is he who grants you life and his nobility grants you favour,That's not it. That's the reality of British status - as it was. His supporters respond positively to him visibly not trying. On one level, it's humerous and 'charming'. But they unconsciously get the message that they can be confident. They've backed the right guy.
People genuinely hope his status will rub off on them. Or even better, they'll get an in, an up in life, and catch some crumbs.
What he has in common with Trump is he knows how to play people's greed. Greed for MONEY.
The yanks are looking for a guy on the make. New guy from out of town, big name, turns up with a new scheme, gets investment, hand out loads of cash and contracts, then disappears. People are unconsciously hoping they are getting in on the scheme, and a few thousand fall in their lap.
Boris is teasing at the British equivalent. This grift is about status. Posh chap in country clothes and dodgy old school shoes turns up in the pub, buys everyone a drink, starts laying out his scheme to buy back the Manor from the nasty French owners. His buddy Seb knows a banker who will turn it into a hotel with jobs for everyone. He wows them with old wine, names and places, secures their savings to buy the manner, sells it on, leaves with the lot.
But from the mark's perspective - here is the guy who will lead them to the places where the old money is. Where it's all going around in circles between them. There's no real need to work hard, you just have to be in with the right people, and with any luck, crumbs will fall your way. Everyone knows they only use people who can pass for the same as them. It's not about having the knowledge or ability. They're not clever, are they? They want people who won't ask silly questions or make life difficult. All about trust. Trust the old thing.
All of it works via STATUS. Boris being an arse is his displaying this ultimate status, teeing up that age old grift on them. The bad behaviour is a sly wink. He's a human being! He's not putting on a show! He wouldn't - he literally couldn't do it! His hair would fall apart! Not like most posh guys, who blank normal people.
It's an emotional hook, line, sinker. He's playing what they WANT the world to be like. Where their heritage as white british male who doesn't cause problems is worth money and the attention of those with even more status.

there are only three classes in the UK. The upper echelon, the left behind, everyone else. I don't believe the 'working class' still exist.Amongst your flowery rhetoric you make some brilliant points.
