The romancing continues.
Misleading article imo. Laporta (the presidential candidate) never said Leo should have been sold, the interim president tusquets said that. All presidential candidates want votes, they would never say Messi should be sold.

Of course. And he is probably one that can say what he does with more crediblity than the others.

Again.

He doesn't want to be at Barcelona.

1 poor season so far, under difficult and personal circumstances, doesn't make Messi a bad player.

Ask yourself this question. How many goals would Messi score and setup for City with Pep as manager, and playing alongside KDB, Sterling, Torres, Jesus, Sergio, even Mahrez. Just the thought of Messi and KDB in the same team is a wonderful thought.

See his stats below. Especially his G(goal) stats.

Choice between Messi and Maradona as the greatest ever but I wonder how good he is now. I haven't watched La Liga other than odd goal highlights and Barcelona are really struggling and his stats don't look good. Even the greatest players have to call it the end some time and I wonder whether he has reached the end of his time?

If you have seen him this season and think otherwise then great because it does seem like there's a deal to be done.

Well he’s a shoe in as a better signing than Maradona given his current health status and you’re wondering how good maradona is ???

There’s simply no way you fall off a cliff and go from being the goat to becoming a has been in a matter of a few months.
He’s been kept against his will at Barca and his heart just isn’t in it.
It will take a reunion with Pep Txiki and Soriano to rekindle his fire.
I am confident there’s plenty still left in the tank and he could certainly give us a good few years and some unforgettable memories to boot.
I for one would love to see it happen.

His heart is no longer in it but it's no given that he would just revert back to his usual self after a possible move.

He will be 34, there is an awful lot of football in his legs, I doubt this deal both commercially and most important in football terms.

We need a world class long term Kun replacement , and we have to find a long term Fernandinho replacement, those are far more important positions to fill and will be incredibly costly.

I want him but he’s not suddenly started to decline it started over 18 months ago.

Put it this way, Messi is better at 33 than Maradona was lol

When Messi finally arrives, this thread will go down in history for how hilarious it was that some people didn't think he could do it for us.
I think that the transfer can be made to pay for itself but I do think it's an open question how effective he would be in the Premier League. His goal return is 2 goals in La Liga from open play (I just knocked off 2 pens), and Barca's record is very poor in La Liga at the moment. Other than goal highlights I haven't seen them but it's not encouraging.

What matters to me now more than anything is seeing City win titles. Watching great players in a City shirt its good but winning titles and seeing the trophies is what really counts. Of course he could do both but I would like the opinion of someone who is watching La Liga at present remembering that that league is on a level below the Premier League in terms of intensity.

31 goals + 27 assists in 19/20 but Okay ! Scoring goals like this Vs koulibaly in CL(when he is on decline)

He has two goals from open play in La Liga this season whilst Barca sit 3 points above the relegation zone and 12 points off the top.

We know who he is and what he's done but if he comes here he comes as the lightning rod through whom everything goes and you have to be right on your game no matter who you are. I am not sure. The clock is ticking down on Messi. In the end I wanted us to buy him in the Summer because the prospect was so exciting but you can not just dismiss the concern about his age and his form. Looking at the stats now it might have been a good thing we didn't buy him. There's no way City can carry anyone in our current side because our intensity without Foden and Bernardo is already an issue.

I have explained to you in an earlier post the reason why his performance is low this season as I watch them play and don't derive conclusions watching highlights. And it is absolutely not his fault rather the naive tactics of koeman and dead Barca team.

I believe that he has 2 more seasons of play left in him at high levels. If the one of the greatest player of all time wants to join that too for "free" , it would be heights of ridiculousness to turn him down.

Put yourself in Messi’s shoes.
He’s done everything in football at Barca and won all there is to win.
He is fully aware the current cycle of domination by Barca is over and his best mate has left under an acrimonious cloud.
He has tried to leave but has been kept very publicly against his will.
The team is languishing in lower mid table and their brightest young talent and their best defender are out for the season.
Do you:
a) stay at Barca, sign a new contract for less money and watch your team languish in mid table whilst getting blamed for underperforming or
b) leave as soon as possible to see if you can do the winning thing again and prove yourself the greatest ever by excelling in a different league playing for and with some of your best friends and probably trousering more money in the process??

It all depends on his appetite for the game.
I think he still has it.
