great brilliant, but correct me if I am wrong it’s the UK regulator who has approved it first and it is the UK that is rolling out the vaccine right now ahead of all other countries.

I think that is something to celebrate.
Its also one of the very best things about our National Health Service. It creates a coordination and universal care principle and over 70 years of experience of doing health based things as a nation that many other large countries - like the USA - simply do not have. Its a sign to the world that the health of your people is a thing the nation should do together not divvy up to those who can afford it.

So I think THIS is the best message the UK kicking off this programme can send to the world and one we should emphasise when being interviewed. Look after your people's health as one people and you will be better prepared next time.

As there will be a next time.

Couldn't get vitamin D supplements in supermarkets for love nor money, went to pharmacy and bought some but just realise its high strength 25ug stuff. Conflicting articles when I Google it, seems best to take one of these every couple of days rather than daily perhaps? 10ug seems the standard amount.

The older you are and the less you go out the more you need. I have been taking a 25 ug one a day since the end of Summer. Will do so for the rest of the winter.

Happily I stocked up as I knew they would be in short supply this Winter.

This was a useful knowledge I had from being a carer for many years as my mum had very little ability to go outside and took one of these a day (along with many other things) and the basis was all explained to me as to why it mattered in the training I did before taking this on.

Did her no harm long term as she survived into her 90s on them for 15 years in that condition.,

A tad pathetic mate. He and his team have Ben under extreme pressure for such a long period. Naturally he will be emotional

You've been had pal. I have seen better acting in porn.

The bloke isn't human, happily gave out PPE contracts to tory pals at the expense of nurses being ill equipped due to delays and paying full wack.

Yep, I should have bought a few when they had loads in stock. The 10ug seems the standard amount so just wondered if the 25 would ever be considered too much. Doubt they'd sell it if it would ever do me much harm I suppose.

I've seen a man under extreme pressure, never ducking interviews no matter what shit was being thrown at him.

Today is a huge milestone for all. Why not celebrate it rather than be critical of a person showing emotion

I agree we should celebrate this today, it's a wonderful milestone on the path to normality.

I don't at all agree we should lionise Hancock, the man along with Johnson responsible for amongst the very worst covid responses anywhere on earth.

I've taken one 25µg gel every day since mid March and I'm not dead yet. (Oops, that's put the mockers on it!)

Hancock will be held to account in time.

I know imagine the stress he has been under

everyday

wake up at 5 check what’s going on. Deal with emails.

go on media get slagged and abuse all morning and told you are shit to your face by various journalists.

then does his job trying to save lives and the nhs and save us from Covid that no other country has a solution to.

he then gets home at probably 11pm at night totally fucked and his wife says why do you do it?

He gets a few hours sleep, rinse and repeat.

I mean he is not beyond criticism but I can’t think of a worse job in the uk.

I think what people forget about these Government posts is that people do them for a couple of years and then get moved onto another brief during one of the regular cabinet reshuffles. Hancock is no more qualified to be Health Minister than he is to be in charge of transport or sport or education. And I don't mean that in a negative way to demean him I just mean in some aspects he has been incredibly unlucky to be in the job when all this happened! Had it not he'd have served his time pretty unremarkably and then become minister for agriculture or something else and no-one would have batted an eyelid.

Apparently Warrington and much of Cheshire is being evaluated for going into tier 3 next week. I was a little surprised it escaped last time as it was no better than some parts of GM.

According to the Sun the other 3 areas in consideration are all down south. Bath and Somerset, Buckinghamshire an Suffolk.

The concern is that in the past week the number of areas show8ing a rise in cases since the end of the lockdown has increased markedly.

Last week only 21 of the areas in the 315 areas in England were showing an increase in cases. As of today that has risen to 126. And the only UK region that has no local areas in the 315 increasing is the North East. This had just 466 cases last night and has been falling daily for a while and is almost back to where it was in the summer.

GM has gone down a lot but as my daily report on the data last night shows is starting to show signs of having stalled. And I do suspect an uptick is inevitable.

Which is why I am personally hoping we do not exit tier 3. Though I understand the perception of unfairness and I the consequences to livelihood. The biggest threat to those livelihoods is the nation having to shut down in January ad February as we vaccinate the vulnerable because a third wave has started this month and over Christmas by (not for the first time) taking the brake off too soon.

I don’t understand why anyone would hope that their area would not be taken out of tier 3. If you don’t agree with it, act like you are still in tier 3. The difference isn’t that much and the opening of restaurants and pubs will not make any difference to the numbers anyway, if previous infection levels are repeated.
