I don’t understand why anyone would hope that their area would not be taken out of tier 3. If you don’t agree with it, act like you are still in tier 3. The difference isn’t that much and the opening of restaurants and pubs will not make any difference to the numbers anyway, if previous infection levels are repeated.
Of course it will make a difference , i despair with you

Should be sacked

Like Kyle Walker, Rita Ora, Dominic Cummings and Robert Jenrick? Has anyone actually been sacked for breaking the rules? I cannot think of any instances off the top of my head.

Amusing that people compare it to what Cummings and politicians were caught doing. Firstly, she was not involved in developing the rules/restrictions. Secondly, she went to dinner with people she works with so comes into contact with them regularly. Does Covid19 only spread outside of the workplace? Yes, it is not within the rules but there are far worse ways in which we can break the rules.

Honestly, cannot see the problem.

Scotland 33 deaths - down 1 and 692 cases - down significantly. @

More details from Nicola Sturgeon shortly. Her address is always later on a Tuesday.

That is 78 three nation deaths this week v 72 last week. All that rise is in Wales. As the other two nation fell slightly.

England hospital deaths down from 350 to 325 on what is normally one of the two worst days with weekend catch ups.

BUT the NW total has risen despite this fall from 68 last week to 72 this week. So an increase in percentage too.

Scotland more details:

The 692 cases at 5.5% positive.

983 in hospital (up 9 - third straight rise after a long spell of falling numbers is a little worrying).

But 57 on icu ventilator beds - down 2 from yesterday.

So the four nation deaths (with out of hospital in England only to be added) is today 403.

Last week it was 422 - and ONLY Wales increased this week. The other 3 nations all fell week to week.

This became 603 on all settings later when 181 out of hospital in England added.

Nicola Sturgeon announces cautious approach to moving tiers and will reduce restrictions on places like Greater Glasgow but not all the way as she fears easing too much with Christmas free for all upcoming will otherwise risk a new wave.

Inverclyde, Falkirk and Angus down to level 2.

Some areas she thinks are clearly recording higher cases because of the mass testing introduced there and they have taken this into account.

Edinburgh and East Lothian and Midlothian showing slight rises so decided with the Christmas issue on the horizon not to reduce Edinburgh and Midlothian to level 2. But will reconsider next week.

More details of England hospital deaths:

3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v TODAY Total deaths / NW deaths / % of NW deaths v England total.

330 / 87 / 26%

353 / 71 / 20%

350 / 68 / 19%

325 / 72 / 22% TODAY

Slight grounds for concern there but it is always hard to judge from Tuesday data as NW always over reports weekend catch up deaths.

Other areas had the following deaths to NWs 72: 86 NE & Yorkshire. 59 Midlands, 37 London

The most deaths were again in Medway hospitals at 17

In the NW Pennine 13 and Bolton 12. Wigan was also in double figures.

Ages of the deaths. NOBODY under 40 died. Just 16 under 60,

As I have noted happening over the past week or two the gap between the next two groups has narrowed again and it now looks that the one group where % of deaths is increasing is the 60 - 79 year olds.

There were 137 of those today v 172 aged 80 +

A fall from 7.3% positivity rate to 5.5% week on week in Scotland. A welcome drop and reversal of 3 days of plateau or slight rise from the corrosponding day of previous week. Hoping for a good week bearing in mind restrictions almost everywhere in the country are being relaxed on Friday to some extent or other.
