Nurse administering vaccines in Croydon tells Sky's Ali Fortescue it has been an emotional day

Nurse Catherine Cargill has vaccinated 10 people so far today.

She says: "It was an emotional day. I got up quite early in the morning and went for a run round the hospital, and when I was running I was thinking 'I am part of history'.

"In a couple of months, in a couple years, people will be looking back on this day here at Croydon University Hospital and I was just glad to be part of it."

May as well move us to Tier 2 on the 16th, we are going to have a spike in Jan after the Xmas mixing anyway so letting everyone get out for a bite to eat and a beer over the festive period is what I’d prefer and then accept a lockdown in Jan/Feb.
If we do go into tier 2 I think the announcement is on the 16th but it's not until the 19th that hospitality can open. Might be wrong but pretty sure I have read it somewhere.

A further 325 people have died in hospital in England with coronavirus

It brings the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 42,904, NHS England said on Tuesday.

Patients were aged between 42 and 101. All except 12, aged between 56 and 93, had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths were between 5 November and 7 December with the majority on or after 4 December

England hospital deaths by date:

7 Dec adds 45 = 45 after 1 day (Last wk 37 added)

6 Dec adds 149 = 177 after 2 days (Last wk 166 added = 193 after 2 days)

5 Dec adds 61 = 187 after 3 days (Last wk 79 added = 223 after 3 days)

4 Dec adds 47 = 231 after 4 days (Last wk 34 added = 223 after 4 days)

3 Dec adds 11 = 261 after 5 days (Last wk 13 added = 257 after 5 days)

So mostly lower add ons and lower totals than last week, But not entirely and a few little signs of mild concern which tomorrow and Thursday will tell us a lot about as they could go up or down and will be more normal mid week data than today.

No significant add ons for later dates and still no upcoming dates threatening to get close to the 327 current wave 2 peak on 18 November. Getting on for 3 weeks ago. The longer that stays the peak the more happy we can be.

No new records or push back dates into wave 1 being mentioned by me - but which I was doing daily a few weeks ago - is another very good sign.

Oh and the best news of all is that for the first time in some weeks the 7 day total of deaths at 5 days has fallen week to week from 20 - 26 Nov when it was 2202 to 27 Nov to 3 Dec when it is 1823.

I agree we should celebrate this today, it's a wonderful milestone on the path to normality.

I don't at all agree we should lionise Hancock, the man along with Johnson responsible for amongst the very worst covid responses anywhere on earth.
Its not lionising him, mate. It's showing empathy.

I agree that they're responsible, of course they are as PM and HSec, but IMO mistakes have been from incompetence rather than malevolence.

Couldn't get vitamin D supplements in supermarkets for love nor money, went to pharmacy and bought some but just realise its high strength 25ug stuff. Conflicting articles when I Google it, seems best to take one of these every couple of days rather than daily perhaps? 10ug seems the standard amount.

It wont do you any harm , the body expells what it doesnt need
It is not entirely true that the body can expel what it doesn't need. This is true for water soluble vitamins like vitamin C but not for some of the fat soluble vitamins like Vit D. Vit D toxicity is a recognised entity.
Having said that 25mcg per day is well below the level at which it is likely, but don't folk go swallowing a whole bottle of Vit D tabs all at once with the misconception that if a little may help with Covid a lot is better, it isn't. But 25mcg per day will do no harm.

Lancet has peer reviewed the oxford vaccine results

confirmed it’s 90% effective with the small dose then full dose

62% with 2 full doses

and that it’s 100% effective against hospitalisations and death.

Great news all round really, must be approved soon.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines haven’t had their results peer reviewed yet

If that's true then great.
But I don't see how the 90% efficacy can have been confirmed yet given the small sample size ( 2.7k) and the question over the age ranges included in that sample.
Unless AZ have increased the sample size but that would have meant extending the sample results timescale to end January to confirm the results?
Either way positive news.

Can only assume there aren't any old ladies Jane Austen knocking around for some sickly PR/jingoism. Happy that it's been rolled out don't get me wrong, but seeking out a guy called Shakespeare, well.

I couldn't believe it hahaha, mans was around during the bubonic plague, lovely bit of symbolism and nostalgia.

I always use the 25ug throughout the dark months
Less strength when we have more daylight
