Erling Haaland

I read a few weeks back that the agent (Mino?) of Haaland has a habit of moving players on every few years.

As much as I'd love to have him here, I'd rather us have the security of keeping him - like Aguero, Silva, Toure, Kompany etc. did/have done - rather than losing him a few years on so the agent can get his next pay day.

Right on cue:

Hmm. We can all agree Raiola’s a piece of shit, but who wouldn’t want to leave United? Whether or not he’s got an unwarranted ego is another discussion, but Haaland seems like he’s got his head screwed on.

If there comes a day where Haaland is 2nd choice like Pogba vs Fernandes, it’s because we’ve got the best striker in the world. Given players price rises and the lack of world class strikers, we’d make a hefty profit.

Worth the gamble in my opinion.

Yeah fair points mate

Messi is unproven in a league commonly regarded as the toughest league in the world. Silva proved himself for 10 seasons here. The argument about Messi being better than Silva, well I'm not arguing, he is(for now). But Messi has played all his career in a soft two horse league where they throw themselves to the floor as soon as anyone makes contact, especially in the box! Messi is getting too old and I very much doubt he can hack a tough new challenge here, and whether he still has the drive to succeed when he's getting clattered weekly. Besides, our club is about 11 players out there, and I won't be getting a semi on if I see Messi beating a few Burnley plodders and the like. And I don't want to see a media and gloryhunter wankfest. I can already imagine the tabloid back page headlines - MESSI GETS 'EM MESSY! : /
Wrong thread...

but the same Messi whose goal scoring record against Atletico, easily the toughest, most physical and “English” style team in Spain over the years under Simeone is downright ridiculous?

It will only be that he is truly “past it” that he would not succeed in the PL.

The rest is just hogwash. Wasn’t the same said of David Silva because he was too small or Fernandinho or Jesus because they’re Brazilian and all anyone could recall was Jo or Robhinio or whatever other Brazilians couldn’t take the cold, despite Dinho playing in Ukraine>=?

Normal Messi will destroy ANY league.

Proof as if any were needed that we should not be dealing with Raiola. The man is a cancer.

Wrong thread or not, Messi will be 34 if we sign him in the summer. And although he has destroyed teams against every league he's faced he hasn't done anything playing in this league week in week out. Time will tell if we sign him and whether he will be a big success. And I mean a footballing success, not a commercial success the club are so keen to sign him for!

Raiola is an absolute disgrace and the fact that some want him anywhere near City so that we can have shiny toy for 3 years is even worse.

Raiola agitates for a move under orders from his clients. Sure it could get messy in the event Haaland wanted to move again, but Mino isn't just trying to shift these players around for the sake of it. He has plenty of high profile/big fee players on his books that haven't been agitating like Pogba & Balotelli do. De Ligt, Donnarumma, Verrati for example.

So is there some new info other than the reports we are interested?

Hardly surprising, and I continue to remain flabbergasted how so many of our fans think we have even a good chance to sign him.

It strikes me that some of us are not really thinking enough about the competition and where we stand compared to other clubs.

I encourage others to look at non-City media and how they see it. I don’t hear any real indication we are considered favorites.

Hope I am wrong.

Where do we stand compared to other clubs? We play in the most lucrative league, one of the richest clubs, the most consistent team in the PL for a decade, have historically in that period scored the most goals and created the most chances and have the best manager in world football.

I think you're underplaying us. Messi trying to force a move to City should be indication enough that we have a chance at landing any player in world football.

Raiola: “I can’t talk about Haaland release clause. Rumors say Real Madrid want him? This is not new to me... but he is very happy with Borussia Dortmund.
Erling wants to win the UCL. When he’ll leave the club, it will be for his ambition and not for money”.

Raiola to Tuttosport: “Haaland is like Ibra when he was 20. Solskjaer is a good guy but he was wrong when he said that Erling is like Lukaku... it would be better if Solskjaer thought about finding a way to make Pogba play like a champion, instead of talking abt Haaland”

So true ! Raiola is just a good agent.

He manages to push the will of his players as his own so that he gets all the blame. It is working wonderfully, everyone is loathing Raiola as if what he said and the timing was not agreed with Pogba.

As you said, ever since Verratti signed under Raiola, we have not heard a single bad word. Nothing at all. Why ? Because Verratti is happy and doesn't need Raiola acting as a proxy to get him what he wants.

There is a reason why so many young and talented players sign with Raiola. He gets things done for them and they keep a clean image.

I'm not saying i like Raiola but you should consider what he says as the reflection of what the player is thinking.
So here, for me, Pogba is the bad one accepting his agent talking such things as such a important time. If he was unhappy with that, he could have antagonized Raiola and changed agent. He did not.

I guess this is a very fair take and something even I had thought about. I have mentioned before that with the plethora of young players that have made Raiola their agent including Haaland, we need to be in a good relationship with the guy.
And an agent never speaks anything this player doesn't want said. Look at Seluk and Yaya Toure. A lot of players under Raiola have just been playing peacefully with no fuss or agitation at all. Exhibit A - Verratti. And we are a big club who can take care of ourselves against one agent if such a need arises. We constantly work with Mendes who does one dodgy deal then another but doesn't speaks out of turn. Raiola is just a little rough around the agents and doesn't wear shiny suits. But he is an excellent agent. One of the best. Ask his clients.
Get Haaland!
