Todays numbers are 5.9% positivity btw - 353, 499 cases for the 20, 964 cases.

So yes there were more tests today but that cannot explain the big rise in cases on its own and positivity is higher than it should be.

She's a journalist, he was the most senior advisor to the PM.

She broke rules whilst well, he broke them whilst symptomatic.

She's been immediately suspended, he was given a national TV slot which he used to troll us with blatant lies, and stayed in his job without consequence.

I'm not defending her. Just saying Cummings was far worse.

Wales just announced all schooling to be done online from Monday. That should have been nationwide from the start of this month if they were going to announce their silly plan to let houses mix over Christmas.

The biggest increases seem to be in tier 2 areas by the way.

I wish they would release the number of tests by area and that way we would get a better feel of how the spread affects each area. A figure just saying how many new cases have been found is, in isolation, pointless if they don't also say how many tests there were and even a breakdown by area. Maybe the reason there are less cases in Trafford for instance is that they have dramatically cut the number of tests they are doing. Not saying that is the case but we don't know

My step kids have all been sent home on various two week stints, and the teachers do it it from school or home. Zoom and phones. It works.
Seeing thousands of near adults mingling around, spreading germs and then a relaxation of rules over Christmas is the biggest fucking joke of the whole thing.

They both actively pushed for him to lose his job. They were far more reckless aand stupid to think they'd get away with it. A pair of Robespierres full of hubris although even if they get fired, they'll land other gigs easily enough.

The Oxford vaccine has had the positive peer reviews already. It’s the regulatory clearance that’s lacking mate.

The most recent review I've seen was in the Lancet and that was the Oxford vaccine group publishing their own trial results.

Huge part of today's rise is in London: Cases up from 2540 yesterday to 4144 - way above any previous number here.

Shows exactly how well tier 2 is working. As in not at all. Tier 3 is a bit better. But these tiers are just far too easy to get around as multiple social media posts prove. And all they do is leak the virus from tier 3 to tier 2.= to tier 1.

There must be national measures to get on top of this. That was made clear in November in England. What has gone wrong has happened as soon as it was removed and hit the tier 2 worse and tier 3 was to a degree immunised. But rises too.

Germany seem to have figured that out too

We're currently surrogate parents for my 7 year old Niece. If she gets sent home it will be impossible to home-school her. We've both got (more than!) full time jobs and wouldn't have time or resources to do it. Many others would be in the same situation.

As for your second point... I agree wholeheartedly and will be giving the super-spreader event a miss over the Festive period.

These numbers will soon ramp up and chip away at this monstrous situation.

My view that humankind was on the cusp of some incredible scientific breakthroughs over the last few years was tarnished by this microscopic virus. We went all medieval again. But actually these vaccine developments have allowed me some fresh optimism.
Not only for this but for future generations. I giant step backwards this year but I'd like to think we're set of a couple of giant step forwards.
Advances in quantum computing will make research and development even more astonishing a few years (no idea of any time frame with quantum computing in all fairness). The off shoots of all this research (especially mRNA) this year must be potentially exciting too.

Just need to sort the thinning of hair issues out (according to 'my mate' who is a tad concerned 'he' says).

Have no fear. Quantum computing, genetic engineering, new knowledge about proteins and necessity (the virus, global warming etc) will drive many amazing breakthroughs in the next few years.

I can’t comment on Rigby as I don’t know her history as well as Hurley Burley who has a history of trying to damage the reputation of rivals.
