England hospital deaths a little down week to week: 289 with 48 from the NW with a lower % of UK total again.

3 wks ago v 2 wks v last wk v TODAY:-

346 / 89 NW / 26%

351 / 81 NW / 23%

295 / 52 NW / 18%

289 / 48 NW / 17% TODAY

N Ireland data: Also still starting to show a slow rise now

14 Deaths (up 3)

6 F / 8 M 5 aged 60 - 79 and 9 aged 80 +

10 deaths in hospital others care homes. Only 3 are confirmed as such as some were older deaths out of the usual time limit.

441 cases

7 day rolling case total up a little again to 3051. It has been rising daily now for over a week after falling a lot for previous 3 weeks.

In the age ranges of those tested the only rise today was in the ones aged 40 - 59.

Care Home outbreaks stays at 107

Testing positive 14.77% (Like Wales fewer tests it seems)

Patients 417 (down 8)

Ventilated 22 (down 2)

So today's UK deaths with England out of hospital to add is 386.

Over last 3 weeks this was 431 v 438 v 381 v 386 TODAY

The rise is due to Wales going up 9 wk to wk though N Ireland (up 3) did too.

Both England (minus 6) and Scotland (minus 1) fell slightly week to week.

Cases from the three nations with England still to come total 3342 - again with Wales being the biggest contributor - as both Scotland and N I reland fell slightly week to week. Not by much though.

Three nation cases 3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v TODAY is of concern - again largely down to Wales.

2593 v 2918 v 2887 v 3342 TODAY - Not great coming out of all the restrictions and heading into even fewer in the heart of Winter.

Wales also are the big issue here as Scotland and N Ireland are not way up - more level - but Wales need real help right now.

I for one would support pushing most of the available vaccine into Wales

Secondary schools around Wrexham are switching to online learning only for the last week of term due to the rise in cases.

More details on the England hospital deaths:

AGES: 1 aged 0 - 19 (second this week sadly showing the age profile of deaths is lowering). 3 aged 20 - 39, 13 aged 40 - 59, 111 aged 60 - 79 and 161 over 80.

The biggest decrease in death rates seems to be in the over 80s. And I have been noting this happening for a week or two now. Still the most but the percentage of total falling.

REGIONS: 77 Midlands, 50 Yorkshire, 48 NW, 34 London, 32 South East.

LOCAL: 14 North Midlands and 11 Birmingham only double figure deaths n hospitals. 7 in Medway most down south. 6 in East Lancashire most in NW.

I made the point on here a few days ago that schools everywhere are going to be put into a horrible position next week. Any positive cases detected mean students (and teachers) having to self isolate for 14 days. After today that 14 days takes them past Christmas day. Thats not going to be a nice message to deliver when it inevitably happens.

Lots of peer reviewed pieces going around about the Pfizer vaccine, and they're all incredibly positive which is lovely.

This is a good read. It's fantastic and really positive news overall. I know we've already approved it, but its just good to read other scientific appraisals of it with such positivity.

Just need same for Oxford as that will be our main source

England hospital deaths by date:

9 Dec adds 38 (Last wk was 48)

8 Dec adds 147 = 197 after 2 days (Last wk was 141 = 196)

7 Dec adds 51 = 215 after 3 days (Last wk was 40 = 216)

6 Dec adds 10 = 241 after 4 days (Last wk was 23 - 239)

5 Dec adds 9 = 224 after 5 days (Last wk was 14 = 281) 224 is the lowest 5 day total since 11 November.

Whilst that last date is very good news it seems unlikely at the moment no dates behind it look probable to be below that number by 5 days and the one right after is already higher at 4 days.

So one good day is not yet a falling pattern.

Neither of the two highest days for deaths had new additions so the peak remains at 323 on 18 November - though four of the days after it sit at over 300 now the highest is at 311 so it is not looking likely any coming up yet are going to set a new peak number.

But that can very quickly change as cases seem to be starting to tick up and the vaccine is unlikely to stop them translating into more deaths fast enough if that keeps happening.

A third wave is still a very definitive possibility. Though sadly it may be areas further south bearing the bigger part of this one I doubt the north is remotely near immunity but might have some higher degree of resistance by now to help a little.

I fear we will find the answers via some grim news still to come in Jan and Feb whilst awaiting the cavalry.

My daughter works in a local, private secondary school. They have over 500 pupils self isolating at present and have decided to close tomorrow for Christmas.

Can't see a topic on it.
Kay Burley, a vile woman in my view, has 'agreed' to go off air for six months for breaking Covid rules. I don't watch her, but I would put a wager on that age would have been after Cummings to resign?
Why hasn't she been sacked, or resign herself? She's basically on holiday for 6 months now.
