I expected it to be more than that. Even our insignificant fishing industry is worth £987m.

The key word is ‘surplus’. The overall value is around £90 billion of service exports to the EU.

Seriously, I’m going to start charging you people money given the number of times I have to school you.

Anyway back in the real world. I mentioned the other day that supply chains for NI will reconfigure to an all Ireland solution over time, further emphasising the split between GB and NI.

BREAKING: The UK will make a unilateral declaration promising to remain fully aligned to EU food safety and animal health rules for the production of agrifood products destined for Northern Ireland after January 1, @RTE

This will be for six months after that ‘processed meats from GB will no longer be permitted in NI and that in the meantime retailers will begin sourcing locally produced goods from North and South. The UK has a different interpretation, ie that further ideas can be explored.‘

Also the EU will issue a unilateral declaration on NI state aid provision.

stating that it will not apply the NI Protocol’s state aid provisions in any “abusive” way through the reach back effect. On Monday the UK announced it would delete the offending clauses within IMB’ @RTE

Anyone care to define ‘abusive’? :)

Today we've had someone's realising we've got no boats to catch more fish in our waters, and someone saying there's no SM in services then immediately posting a link to an article claiming that the non-existent SM wasn't working.

To be fair, they aren't pretending they know something only they know and the rest of us have to guess.

I guess you'd need to know the difference between goods and services to process that information

I'd wonder if you'd actually read the article you linked, but you actually quoted a bit about the (alleged) effect on services.

Looks like we’ll miss out on this lol

Who would have thought it.

. I think the recalcitrants will fall into line. I rather liked Ruttes quote:

Rutte said bluntly that Hungary and Poland should fix the situation. "Ask these two how they want to solve it," Rutte said. Injecting a bit of Dutch philosophy and poetry, he added: "The EU doesn't work in such a way that you can stub out your corona cigar, take a sip and wait for the others to let the roast chickens fly into your mouth."

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - European Union leaders unblocked on Thursday a 1.8 trillion euro financial package to help the economy recover from the pandemic-induced recession after reaching a compromise with Poland and Hungary, the chairman of EU leaders Charles Michel said.

“Deal on the MFF and Recovery Package. Now we can start with the implementation and build back our economies. Our landmark recovery package will drive forward our green & digital transitions,” Michel said on Twitter.

@mcfc1632 it would seem I got that analysis right. You know, the one you didn’t see.

They will though, they’ll still be claiming it’s good negotiating and it’s the brexit they expected and wanted when they voted.
Tbf it was Theresa May who said no deal was better than a bad deal, and here we are. There is no easier or more oven ready deal than 'no deal' - if only we'd got May's deal through parliament back in March last year, but is suppose the extremists were determined to see how far they could push it.

Have a look at their recovery package - it has a few 'strings' attached to say the least.
