For those who have an Athletic subscription, interesting numbers on him regarding his ball progression and success under pressure, although all of this really just proves the eye-test, as this part of his game was most of the time top notch.

Poor so far first half. Giving the ball and free kicks away cheaply and hiding behind scum player from the ball when our centre halves have it.

He’s quite a good player is Rodri. But that’s only good enough if we want to finish 4th-7th.

Just not good enough.

Want to judge him when he doesn’t have the luxury of another midfielder helping him defensively to the extent he has. There’s enough at the back to release the front five and allow him to keep guard alone.

Why the fuck is this thread so busy? Last time I checked the cdms job(in our team) was to protect the back 4 and recycle possession keeping the opponent under pressure. 6 clean sheets in a row
He helped create utd best chances today......one giving it away and then fouling pogba.....second one in the penalty incident that was then overtunred its him missing the challenge in midfield that is the root cause of it.
And because he affects the balance of our midfield as against anyone half decent he cant be trusted to play on his own without Gundogan or Ferna next to him.......
He is an average player in this league and is exposed if Pep plays the way he did in our best seasons.......He is not the future and as another poster put it....we will struggle to win things with him in the team/squad

Waste of space, dropping back in between stones an dias to make a 5 yard pass side. Yeah not bad but you loose an attacking option, debruynes getting smothered in the final third while rodris sipping tea.

The CDM’s job is to be the link man between the defence and the attacking midfielders, not by playing splitting balls or fancy flicks or dinks, but by passing it forward, looking for options. Gareth Barry was fantastic at it, simple 5-10 yard passes, meaningful passes to better players.

It is no surprise that we have gone from one of the most exciting teams in Europe to one of the most boring since he signed (for a record!!!!!)
