It was just a bad game. No more, no less.

I swear if we sold every player after they had a bad game or two like people on here want all the time the only person left would be the kitman.

The issue is how many bad games. I don't think people appreciate how bad of a player he is. His weight of pass literally makes no sense whatsoever. He lashes the ball at players when they're about 10 yards from him. The fact that he consistently crosses the ball out of play is a clear indication that he just aimlessly hits it and hopes. He honestly has no redeemable qualities as a player.

Pep quite rightly bollocked him when he ran into the box from a cross and tried to chest it instead of head it

Hard to see him having any future with us. His strength, confidence, and joy seem to have sapped away. There is no drive or desire to take someone on and a lack of bravery to engage in the physical side of the game. Just cannot even see him managing a run of games.

I think the same can be said for most of the team. Energy and joy sapped!
Whos to blame for that ?

Injuries have ruined him. Of course he can and hopefully will improve, but he doesn’t have any confidence at all at the moment. I would be totally fine with him as a backup, but we need a top class LB, and the answer is not Cancelo. Theo Hernandez is badly needed

He’s a useless big lump of crap imo.

I was hoping he was going to be prime Richards at left back for us, just a juggernaut up and down that flank and could defend, like Richards 11/12 before the injury.

Unfortunately his left peg isn’t fit to be in the same league as Kolarov and he reminds me of Mangala, just in the left back position, with his error prone ways.

We need a mixture of Clichy and Kolarov, which isn’t asking for much.

I’d honestly recall Angelino and get rid of Mendy and have Angelino, Ake and Cancelo as options there.

we can’t just release him and write him off no matter how much fans would want that so we’re forced to try and get him fit, get him playing regularly and hope he can put his injuries behind him and become a valuable asset to us, be that as a player or through a sale.
We have written players off before such as Bony and Mangala!
We can't continue to persist with Mendy
Pep needs to adapt now
I think Cancello makes us too narrow when he plays on the left and is extremely liable to be "done" when he's on the wrong side
I'd be starting Ake at LB and use Stones to push into midfield when we're in possession

The injuries aren't his fault. But he's done completely. He can't even do the basics at the moment.

The problem is that he's on a massive contract and it still has two and a half years left.

This!

Mendy is a liability on defense, is very poor on build-up play, now lacks pace, can't beat anyone on the dribble, and his crosses are hit-and-miss.

Just don’t see the connection between what you quoted and what you asked.

To answer your question though, I don’t think it’s anywhere near that simple. Mendy is very inconsistent but despite that he’s still then best option we have in that position.

Is there better out there? Most definitely.

Is there better available? Also Yes.

however, we spent big on Mendy, his injuries means no club is going to be willing to take a punt on him for anywhere near what would be deemed an acceptable fee, we can’t just release him and write him off no matter how much fans would want that so we’re forced to try and get him fit, get him playing regularly and hope he can put his injuries behind him and become a valuable asset to us, be that as a player or through a sale.
Bin him off out on loan. Just because he cost a lot is not a reason to stay here despite being complete shit.

Bony and Mangala amongst many others were binned out on loan so why not Mendy.
