He looked decent in the early going when we were on top, but his overall contribution was not where we need it to be.

Gave away three fouls, got booked, made a very poor error which forced an excellent save from Ederson, and only completed 56% of his passes.

The pass statistic is very misleading because Pep had him and Laporte trying very adventurous passes and trying to make runs and then pass through the Leeds man-for-man midfield.

I haven't seen the stats but I'd bet Laporte was in the 70's, when he's normally in the 90's, and I'd bet most of the passes Mendy missed were very attacking passes into the Leed's 1/3rd.

Maybe his first touch was so atrocious they counted it as an attempted pass rather than him just being unable to control a football.

I'll accept that as a mitigating factor, but surely you'd still want that number to be higher than 56% even allowing for the perceived difficulty of said passes?
