I think we will learn a lot about the defence from this game if Southampton play like they have done so far this season instead of parking the bus like they did in June.

Southampton have a good striker, some inventive passers of the ball, supporting forwards in good form, it will be a good test for (presumably) Dias, Walker and Stones.
Very much, they havent been given too much of a rough ride yet as we have been on top in our games, despite results.Ultimately though,we need Pep to get the midfield right.

To be brutally honest, we've not looked at all comfortable since we got turned over by Norwich last season. We had a bit of a 'spurt' when football returned after the lockdown but it was just another false dawn.

Guardiola's demeanour has changed completely since he threw the Lyon game away - He's been treading water for the last 18 months and is looking more and more like 'yesterday's man'. I still can't believe that he had the gall to sign a contract extension.

The buck stops with Guardiola and Bergiristain - Time to cut them loose before they try to piss away another fortune on Messi.
Didn't Pep say that he will call it a day when the players stop buying in to his methods?. Has that day arrived then, it doesn't seem far away to me?

No guarantee with Pep, but surely Torres deserves another chance to impress from the start. Sterling is misfiring at the moment and Mahrez is inconsistent.

Quite evident we are struggling up front and Pep needs to change things.

Lets hope the clueless shithouses version of Southampton that turned up for the 2nd half against the rags turn up again at the weekend

Just read a report that Pep held an inquest with the squad today about what was going wrong. Hopefully everything was thrashed out, a few home truths were said, and we see a different approach and attitude

We’ve been waiting for that moment for a long time tho, it’s just not happening

Ederson
Walker Stones Dias Laporte
De Bruyne Gundogan B Silva
Torres Aguero Jesus
No Mendy, no Mahrez. Keep it simple at the back and let the attacking boys do their jobs.

Can’t see us getting anything there. Our game has gone to pot and the minnows are smelling blood.
2- 0 Southampton.

Ederson
Walker Stones Laporte Zinchenko (would put Delph in at LB but alas no other decent defence minded player for left side)
Fern
Bernardo KDB
Foden Jesus Torres

Will update the Form Guide and Season so Far stats above here in this section again after the Saints have played Arsenal tomorrow.

[DONE]

Stats in the original post are now updated after their draw at Arsenal earlier today ... With Chelsea and Leicester both losing their mid-week games, they're now 3rd in the table only behind Spurs and Liverpool ... and that's where they will be come Saturday when they play us!

We need a fast start..catch them cold.. get a early goal, Augero to start otherwise this will be Strictly Come Dancing on a football field, pass, pass, forward, sideways, pass, pass...oh and we are a goal down...
The WBA game was nearly as bad as the derby, we have a full squad and total garbage...

Be interesting to see if the team plays with better tempo with fans present. I know there won’t be any of our fans but playing in front of an atmosphere may help lift the players

Think there’s a chance Southampton could move into Tier 3 tomorrow, so it’s not a given there will be fans there.

It will be even more interesting if Southampton play to win.

----------Ederson
Walker--Stones--Dias--Cancelo
-----------Rodri
----Bernardo--Foden
Mahrez---Jesus---Sterling

Back to high intensity City

Anyone watch Liverpool v Spurs tonight. The intensity those two teams played with vs City. We need to get back to that. If players aren't fit drop them, and get them fit.

Very strange seeing a Pep side play games with zero intensity but it has become our hallmark now. We have to sort this out.

Nothing will change in this game. I miss the free flowing football. I am always hopeful that we can turn it around before the team news appears then I remember why we are not great at the mo.

1-2 city I think.
