No lack of hunger for them this year which is what we struggled with supposedly after 2012 and 2014. Thought we'd turned the corner after defending it in 2019 but been nowhere since and look further away than ever now. Seasons a write off bar carabao and possibly fa cup (but most likely not). No chance of CL pep will bottle it and pull a weird one as usual. Happy Christmas

Even without van Dijk, they’re comfortably the best team in the league.

They are without half their squad.. the fact we are nowhere near them with pretty much our full squad says a lot. I hate Klopp but if the roles were reversed with injuries they would probably be 12 points clear. It’s unbelievable how much more competent they are then we are. Embarrassing in fact.

OK, we've got a game in hand against Villa, which isn't a given, but we're already 8 points behind, which is 3 wins for us, and 3 defeats for them.

Pains me to say it. They take their late chances. We don't. Last night being a prime example.

They have dropped 11 points in 13 games and you're ruling out the idea they might drop 5 to us in the next 25?

People need to wake up and realise this is not 2018 or 2019. Just like 13/14 whoever puts together a run of 10 or 11 wins will win the league, and that could be in December or it could be in March like we did back then.

Statistically true but having watched them tonight and us last night, no chance.

No.

They take their lates chances. We don't. They are 8 points in-front of us. Which means at this point of the season we have to win 3 games, they have to lose 3 games, just for us to be 1point in-front of them, bar what the other PL teams do above us.

They are at Palace next. They play before us. If they win, they will be 11 points in-front of us before we play Southampton. It's already starting to get serious if we want to win the PL title.

There's just so much fucking nonsense in this post.

"They take their late chances" They didn't at Fulham, or Everton, or Brighton. They dropped points.

"They are 8 points ahead of us" Yes after playing an extra game.

Why is them going to Palace something noteworthy? Palace are one of the form sides in the league and much better than the teams they already dropped points to.

This is proper dipper/rawk levels of mental gymnastics to convince yourself Liverpool are great. Their own fans aren't this deluded about how well they are doing.

Let's revist your reply after Saturday's games. If we're 5 points behind the Scousers with a game in hand, I'll hold my hands up and admit I'm wrong. OK!

But just to clarify. I'm not saying the league is over for us. Or for any of the chasing pack. I'm merely pointing out we're already chasing the Scousers, 8 points behind them, and it's not even Christmas. Given both teams circumstances, current teams/squads, injuries, form, etc, we shouldn't already be *8 points* behind the Scousers. Agreed?

And let's be honest. Can you be? Our performances this season hardly give any of us fans any confidence that we'll catch the Scousers anytime soon.

I'll revisit this thread on Sunday Morning.

As I've said all along--we are a good team. Some of you take offense to us being a good team, as if that's the same thing as saying you're a bad team (of course you're not--if anything you were favorites going into the season, and have a better team and squad--as you yourselves said, so it's not "concern trolling"--it's the argument you lot made).

As I've said all along, the LiVARpool and "we never get injuries", were a bit understated.

Anyway, still a long season, we're knackered and based on the conventional wisdom "Klopp teams self-destruct in the third season" and we definitely can't keep up that intensity. So let's see. We're not that far ahead, this isn't a replay of last season. I think we will suffer when the ECL resumes.

I wonder if perversely, the injuries are increasing that hunger.

Even without van Dijk, they’re comfortably the best team in the league.

They just beat the ladder leaders with some kid on debut and Fabinho playing at centre half.

It was never about Van Dijk, nor was it for us ever about our centre halves. They're defending from their middle and front, just like we've done at our best.
