Incidentally the South West - the area Boris used to justify tiers over national lockdown because it would be unfair to punish areas like this with the lowest cases in England - um - now don't.

Up to 1318 now and so the North East is below it. Indeed Yorkshire was too until past couple of days.

Indeed it is now at a Pop of 135 after a rise of 48% in the day on the 6 day old old Pop Score data that the government uses.

Still the lowest weekly on this old data but Yorkshire just above it had only an 8% rise and with a Pop of 163 can easily overtake them soon.

North West is next at a Pop of 177 - but it has been rising daily - today by 24%, It will be over 200 in days.

Indeed the North East just above it at 187 only rise by 15% and in the days since then has fallen and I am pretty sure will have taken over as third best from the North West.

Week to week since 20 Nov here are the changes in the regionl Pop Scores (lowest is best remember as with all Pop scores - ie cases per 100K population - here across the region)

SOUTH WEST 150 v 96 v 79 v 91 v 135 TODAY

YORKS 319 v 197 v 161 v 150 v 163 TODAY

NORTH WEST 240 v 159 v 137 v 142 v 177 TODAY

NORTH EAST 317 v 198 v 156 v 163 v 187 TODAY

EAST MIDLANDS 261 v 182 v 165 v 187 v 224 TODAY

WEST MIDLANDS 305 v 211 v 163 v 184 v 227 TODAY

SOUTH EAST 161 v 141 v 158 v 231 v 403 TODAY

EAST 133 v 116 v 137 v 225 v 450 TODAY

LONDON 178 v 156 v 185 v 301 v 644 TODAY

This charts the path of the lockdown, ending of it and into tiers and the march from south to north of the new strain,

Seems like a very safe thing to do at the moment and cannot believe we missed out by a day. The Canary islands of Lanzarote and Fueteventura are a low risk factor for us oldies considering a 400 per 100,000 risk of staying here.

Lanzarote
Current active cases on the island – 42 .. Currently in Hospital – 1 ..Cases in ICU – 0 /
The infection rate per 100,000 over the last 7 days is 18 and below out governments recommendation of 20 per 100,000

Much better than having a bun fight in Primark

Surprised they still want us! Do Brits have to take tests to go there?

Why the fuck are people coming into the country from half way around the world?
British citizens returning from holiday.

Yes, you heard that correctly. While the majority of the country are forced to sit at home and businesses are forced to close down in an effort to drive down the virus, people are returning from their holidays and effectively driving the virus back up again.

Nowhere is there any information on how many people have been vaccinated, you would think they would be publishing the figures to reassure us. I suspect things are not going as planned.
They are collated weekly along with the flu jabs processed on Wed's.

Along with other countries the Spanish have now suspended travel for the UK but are still allowing travel for their own citizens returning home. They ceased travel from the UK from the 22nd December following our new virus mutations.
Before that you could travel with a pcr test and more recently the tma antigen test that could be obtained same day.

Jeeze look at Germany, averaging over 25k cases a day, over 750 deaths a day and nearly a thousand a couple a days ago. And this is in the country that has so far done better than an any other major European country. What on earth are we going to be like in 2 or 3 weeks time.

A couple of points on this, planes might be coming in, but nobody knows how many are on them, and those that are, could be brits coming home (though if I was them I'd stay where I was if possible). Flights going out will be taking their (lucky) nationals out of this disaster area.

Sitting in our homes waiting for the army to deliver Rice and Pasta!

it’s certainly going to get worse before it gets better.

Other watch areas for readers:

Swansea 254 - down from 273. Total cases 12, 555. Pop score up 103 to enter the 5000 club at 5083.

Will be able to give a daily update on weekly Pop Score from tomorrow but based on the 6 days of data it would right now be about 740.

KENT

Dartford 149 cases - down from 176. Total cases 3908. Pop score up 132. Weekly Pop rises from 829 to 855.

Medway 428 cases - down from 445. Total cases 13, 515. Pop score up 154. Highest I have seen today. Weekly Pop up from 1054 to 1060. Giant Pop score and over 1000 thankfully very rare.

To be fair I suspect the majority are coming home for the "festive" season from working abroad, we have many in the chemical oil and gas industry that work in the US, (I doubt their companies like BP have let them just take the year off), and I'm sure some have still been travelling for business, I've a colleague just about to fly out for work, to a right shithole I wouldn't ever go.

On the Wirral staying in tier 2. Here are their past weeks numbers:

44 - 64 - 68 - 64 - 90 - 87 - 119

So of course they are in tier 2 as they are tripling,

But the government will be looking at last week as usual.

Either that or England is about to be renamed Wonderland and we do the opposite of the obvious.
I don’t follow the numbers as closely as you do. Do the government genuinely use data that’s a week old to form the basis of their decision making? That’s just mind blowing if true. No wonder it’s a shit show.

All we heard about what Germany, Germany Germany at the beginning but it’s gone pretty quiet lately. Goes to show that unless you lockdown indefinitely you can’t really escape it.

Heard a suggestion that not testing people before they get a vaccine could lead to us teaching the virus how we're trying to stop it and thus allowing it to mutate to be vaccine resistant. That's just gossip mind but echoes your sentiment.

Was the suggestion from anyone with any credibility or just a random person you know or from social media?
