Those stories fit closely with what I have posted a few times over the past couple of weeks about a late night interview I saw from one of the Oxford scientists talking about the reason for the delay in approval - that extra tests were showing even greater efficacy and they felt they needed to trade off that assurance that it was as good as the one in use now so it did not look like some were being given the second best option because it was easier.Papers tomorrow looking good for the vaccine
Times interview with AZ ceo saying new data showing it a lot more effective, up there with Pfizer and Moderna and expected to be approved in days
Telegraph saying total vacinations to be above 2 millionwithin fortnight, oxford jabs going to start week commencing 4th Jan then really ramp up the week after with mass vaccination centres
Mail saying the Gov has identified 15 million to vaccinate to prevent most hospitalisations and deaths and are aiming to have them done by end of Feb, which means tight restrictions could be lifted
mirror however is complaining about most Care Homes not being rolled out so far
It also fits with what my friend of 50 years was told 2 weeks ago that despite being one of the most vulnerable she had to wait for the Oxford vaccine because it was too difficult to get her and the current one in the same place. But the Oxford one was coming and they already had all the plans ready for its expected approval tomorrow or Tuesday and vaccinations to start a week tomorrow. With she being told it was likely she would be asked to go to the Etihad complex which she lives near for this a week on Tuesday.
This is all very good news. Once the over 75s are vaccinated the death numbers will hopefully plummet a few weeks later.
But January and February whilst we get to that point given the weeks needed to do so and lag between getting sick and dying are still going to be hard that is almost certain.
We might well see light by early March.
