COVID-19 — Coronavirus

That’s a bit of an oversimplification, tbf. Plenty of fit and healthy people have been struck down by Covid too. Eight (?) of our current squad included.

I wasn’t saying it prevents Covid.

just saying running every day from my personal experience has prevented me from getting a cold, headache or anything really, may just be a coincidence but before I took up running I was always getting ill all the time

Impressive figures, but you have to factor in their relatively small population though.

Surely the fact they are vaccinating more people in Israel than the UK is more impressive, based on such a small population, as presumably they have a lot less health care professionals to administer the doses.

It’s not a case of not catching it if fit and healthy but unlikely to require any treatment and that’s if you even notice you’ve got it. Wouldn’t surprise me if the squad members with it have very few symptoms or feel really ill but just are known to have it as being routinely tested.

They’re vaccinating a higher percentage of the population, but not more people according to that article.

As to whether it’s more impressive, I guess that’s open to debate. They have fewer care professionals, as you say, but they’re more densely populated so maybe that makes the logistics easier?

Lascelles and Saint-Maximin at Newcastle may disagree.

Interesting that the Az ceo said they’d come up with a dosing that matched the pfizer and moderna efficiacy, had heard something about spacing improving it rather than half doss full dose

Absolutely fucking raging! The ex wife who is a teacher and her partner who is also a teacher had 14 for Xmas day from 4 households. They also had a separate family around on Boxing Day. My wife and I did not see our parents on Xmas day. The kids obviously come between both houses. The ex has now lost her sense of smell and taste and her partner is ill and her mum who has major health issues a cough. All awaiting test results. The selfish cow - I am so angry I feel like calling the school. She has placed me at risk and my dad (I do his shopping) and my wife’s parents through her total selfishness. I am so bloody angry.

I must be misunderstanding the article, but how I read it it states the rate of vaccination is faster in Israel.

It states the Uk has vaccinated 600k people between the 8th to 20th December but Israel has vaccinated 500k between the 20th to 27th December (based on when Netanyahu announced the figures).

I would agree due to the density of the country and minimal travel distances this would assist in the vaccine being easily distributed.

It’s such a piss take.

I’m still really angry about how many close mates of mine and my wife’s side of the family all having big Xmas party’s as if nothings going on.

They will all act alarmed in the next week or so when it gets even worse with little self regard that they have contributed to this all.

maybe it's the wake-up call people finally need.

Dr John Campbell on the Kent Covid-19 variant

Incidently one of the changes in the spike protein makes 1 of the 3 parts of the PCR test useless so they're going to have to change that. Even though it allows previous cases to be checked to see if they are associated with the new variant (and if they can be bothered they can where the mutation took place or entered the country )

Fucking hell.
I feel for you, I really do.

There will always be outliers but I think its pretty clear its having less impact on people with good health.

long cov is pretty much all ages evenly from what I’ve read. Even those totally asymptomatic.

edit. Older is more common but all ages

10% between 18-49.
22% over 70

GREATER MANCHESTER SCOREBOARD

1404 - up from 855. 33% of NW Total 4194

MANCHESTER 272 cases. Up from 152. Total cases 35, 358. Weekly 1182. Pop score up 53 to 6399. Weekly Pop up 24 to 217. Highest in over 3 weeks.

STOCKPORT 157 cases. Up from 127. Total cases 12, 374. Weekly 726. Doubled in two weeks. Pop score up 54 to 4216. Weekly Pop up 24 to 246. Stockport is on a scary upward spiral from best to worst. Now starting to post the worst numbers each day. Though nobody is doing well so it is less bad relatively speaking.

WIGAN 149 cases. Up from 97. Total 18, 972. Weekly 684. Less than Stockport now. Pop score up 43 to 5771. Weekly Pop up 30 to 217.

TRAFFORD 139 cases. Up from 53. Total 10, 240. Weekly 612. Pop score up 58 to 4314. Weekly Pop up 32 to 258. Despite Stockport's woes Trafford had an even worse day. So lost ground on Stockport in the best overall pop score by 4 to 98.

BURY 137 cases. Up from 66. Total 11, 530. Weekly 540. Pop score up 60 to 6027. Weekly Pop up 30 to 273.
Bury had a bad day too with the worst Pop score rise in GM today

ROCHDALE 125 cases up from 86. Total cases 14, 643. Weekly 569. Pop score up 55 to 6581. Weekly Pop up 23 to 253. 42 to 5165.

OLDHAM 119 cases up from 52. Total cases 16, 598. Weekly 497. Pop score up 50 to take Oldham sadly but finally and belatedly thanks to recent good scores into the 7000 club at exactly 7000. But Blackburn - the other occupant - is over the hill and far away at 7538. Highest overall Pop in UK. So no danger of catching them. Weekly Pop score up 19 to 209.

BOLTON 106 cases up from 77. Total cases 16, 974. Weekly 494. Pop score up 37 to 5902. Bolton lowest Pop score rise of the day. Weekly Pop up 17 to 171.

SALFORD 105 cases up from 70. Total cases 15, 192. Weekly 559. Pop score up 42 to 5872. Weekly Pop up 6 to 219.

TAMESIDE 95 cases up from 53. Total cases 11, 704. Weekly 483. Just best weekly total by 11 ahead of Bolton. But like everywhere Tameside going up in all measures. Pop score up 42 to 5165. Weekly Pop up 321 to 211.

Many big Pop Score rises today means Bolton - the town that put GM into lockdown with its huge spike way back in July since when it has been in some sort of measures - is now THE best in GM....lowest Pop rise today and incredibly now the only borough with a Weekly Pop Score under 200.
