COVID-19 — Coronavirus

This country is totally desensitised to covid deaths and it's quite obvious that unfortunately most don't take the PM or the rest of his cronies seriously anymore. It's an incredibly dangerous combination. I remember when I told my mum that a few hundred had died of it in the earlier weeks of the outbreak and she was shocked. Just been on the phone to her now and mentioned the 900+ of the last two days and it was barely acknowledged. My mum is a compassionate, considerate person too. I know its a normal reaction to try and get by and cope, but it's incredibly concerning. It can only lead to people letting down their guard more often.

Absolutely boggles the mind that we're not in full lockdown. People in other countries are literally looking on in amazement at us in terms of how badly we're dealing with this.

I understand what you are saying, but it’s only natural to become desensitised to it. I don’t think it’s healthy to be shocked and upset about it all the time - as bad as that sounds. Similar with things like terrorist attacks - people become less shocked.

it’s not a good thing to say and I agree it will lead to more people being relaxed and inevitably more deaths. Hopefully the vaccine takes effect this year

Makes me feel pretty embarrassed to be British .. what a selfish fucking nation we are..

Problem is even if you get 90% compliance you still have 6 million people ignoring it. I think compliance is probably high overall but not that high, particularly amongst younger people. I still see loads of Teens hanging around shops, no masks when in shops etc. I know some people who have caught it off their teen kids. I would assume that is one of the biggest causes of the spread.

I don’t think they should trust people to self administer any vaccine if they are thinking about doing that, some won’t and will just expect a Ive had it certification when clearly they haven’t they will cause problem way down the line. They should also give the second dose, stick to the plan and now this single jab has come roll that out at the same time.

It's not anywhere near everyone.

I've just been into our high street, and by and large people were keeping well away from each other, I went into Wilko (surprised they were open - hardly "essential"), and again people were being sensible, then to Waitrose, I expected it to be busy, but there weren't that many in, certainly no queue to get in, and again everyone being sensible, didn't see anyone in a shop without a mask (apart from kids), walked about 2 miles in total, and didn't see anybody acting irresponsibly or selfishly.

Your right, I remember how shocked i was when 100 deaths were announced, then feeling sick at 300 deaths.
Now 600 deaths a day feels like a positive result, Heart breaking
I was watching Netflix and heard a saying from the States. One death is a tragedy and a million deaths is a statistic. It feels a bit like that sometimes. Very sad times.

REGIONAL SCOREBOARD NORTH

WEST MIDLANDS 4986 - up from 3432

NORTH EAST 1875 -down from 1957

YORKSHIRE 2495 - up from 2057.

So the last region seemingly to be less impacted by the new strain is now starting to rise too nearly doubled in a week on average.

Sadly the NORTH WEST is ahead of the curve and again had the biggest rise outside the south and midlands.

NORTH WEST 4746 - up from 3420. This is the highest NW total in over 7 weeks.

And this is without the cases from Christmas which will only be starting to regiater.

Let alone tonight.

I went to Sainsburys earlier, and it was much the same. You end up close to people by accident, but then people just backed up a bit.

I was quite surprised by how calm it was.

I agree, I imagine people were shocked when the first bombs of the second war fell in a City, but after a few months, and with many more bombs falling, people just got on with it without the shock any more.

Numbers where I am are all over the place. The last days 23-31 December have seen the following:

413, 330, 120, 430, 434, 308, 277, 45, 425.

There's obvious that a couple of those are well out of step.

No specific answer.

It builds an immunity over about 3 weeks, with (I would guess) very little at all for the first week. "How immune" is going to vary from person to person.

"Does it stop you spreading it" - nobody knows. There's no evidence that it stops transmission, but there's no evidence that it doesn't. Too soon to tell basically.
Ok thanks mate, hopefully it doesn’t build at least a solid base and works to somewhat stop it/protect.

Don’t think you can blame one age group for non compliance, loads of middle aged people have broken rules from meeting in households, holding parties, going to non compliant pubs. Older people are pretty much the worst as far as I can tell for none or wrong wearing of masks. Never had a problem in my shop with teens or young not wearing a mask.
So yes overall compliance is probably good, but the non compliance spreads all ages.

I agree. The numbers are upsetting, but so would the number of cancer deaths every day, or road deaths, or victims of domestic violence, or still births. But we don’t hear about those on a daily basis. If we did we would become desensitised to those too. Personally I think the huge and rapid rise in deaths has jolted people a little. Maybe not made them any more caring about others, but maybe more frightened for themselves.

Im just thinking someone has got to get the government to switch on and start acting responsibly. Appreciate that damage has been done, but more is forthcoming and can be avoided
Her job is to do it in private.

Doing so publicly would affect democracy and the monarchy is finished.
