I genuinely can't believe this Tweet is still live.

Neither can I and, while gestures like this are futile and stupid, if Twitter doesn’t start fucking these insane assholes off I’m leaving the platform. I’ll miss a few wonderful accounts but the varying standards to which “rules” are applied is looking more and more like officiating in the Prem. I’d never stop watching my City but I could get by and have a happy, fruitful life without Twitter. That goes for Trump’s account too.

Unanimous choice for Dickface of the Decade Joe Rogan has this guy on BEFORE Trump was President, and he (of course) never listened, since he’s a “blow it ALL up” schmuck of the highest order. But Sam Harris put it better than anyone else could have as to what was coming . . .

I really like Rogan.

Sure he’s not perfect and some of his opinions I laugh at but he’s a generally decent person and has a huge mix of people on his podcast.

I’m not a fan of “both sides suck; rip it all down” types. Worse, he wouldn’t call stupidity or amorality out for what it was when he was smart enough to see it because he didn’t want to cut his audience in half. He’s a me-first chickenshit coward, happy to watch the world burn as long as ratings go up.

I personally don’t think that’s his angle and he’s very much a Bernie supporter, from what I’ve seen.

The majority of what he does is apolitical anyway but I think having a range of people does work. He’s only had a couple of guests on that are pro trump and one of them he rowed with them on climate change for a chunk of it.

His biggest critique of the left is the identity politics mob, which I think he’s right on but he can’t stand Trump’s nationalist following, they seem to be his target the most.

He liked Sanders not for his politics but because he’s an iconoclast, which he fancies himself/positions himself as (as so many shysters fleecing the public do), but he voted for Libertarians in 16 and 20 and made sure people knew it. Tells you all you need to know about what he’s really interested in. It’s totally fine if he entertains you and feeds your soul on identity politics — he’s still a grifting coward. I’m not entertained by grifting cowards, nor am I fooled by them.

To be fair I don’t really watch a lot of his political stuff, he does a lot with people who travel or have spent time in the wild and I like watching/listening to that mostly. His stuff on Christianity is not even 6th form level and that’s a big criticism I have of him... plus the aliens stuff is just bonkers.

I think it’s a little harsh to criticise him for having anyone on, healthy debate is always good and the few political ones I’ve seen, he’ll challenge the person sat opposite him.

The fact he has everyone from a moon landing denier to Professor Brian Cox makes it interesting.

Here he is explaining why he has a cross section of views on his show:

Yeah, but see, he’s lying. More perspectives equals a bigger audience equals more money. There’s nothing altruistic about his motives. No one “deserves” a platform, but lots of people think they do today, because they have access to one, and they way through the noise and clutter is to do something that gets attention. A platform in the days of old media was earned. Hence why the democratization of the bully pulpit via technology elevates the exposure of crazy cranks, shysters, know-nothings, and dangerous fringe believers to levels previously occupied by those who earned them through knowledge, study, experience and smarts — the group termed “the elites” by those who didn’t do the work and/or don’t have the talent. The old media had limited reach and editorial control that would never have allowed such people a platform. So Rogan is part of the problem. Because he’s giving them a platform that they wouldn’t get were he serious about anything other than audience size. Which is his job, of course, and that’s fine, and you find it interesting, which is also fine. But he’s a poser and a grifter, I just wish he wouldn’t lie about it. Howard Stern doesn’t — he admits it.
