I think they might make them easily accessible in the Summer once they are down to the lower tiers on the ladder of age ranges.

But just imagine the press stories about a granny being robbed as she is 'forced' to go to a jab centre at 3 am.

Yeah, can't see it for the oldest people. It might be possible for some of the lower bands, letting people book for a crazy o'clock slot.

It seems workable to run long hours though - 6 am to midnight seems okay to me.

I noticed Boris said the jab will be offered to the 13.5 million rather than given to the 13.5 million.

Suppose there are going to be some that can't take it and some that won't take it.

Yea you have to staff it though, people can't work 18 hour days 7 days a week, so you'd be taking vaccinating staff away from working core hours where the need is greatest for them.

NHS frontline staff could be done OOH really as the hospitals are open 24/7 and they could vac each other.

I'm really suprised there hasn't been more fuss over that Lab MP jumping the queue for a vaccine, he should have had the whip removed IMO.

We don't live in the 1940's, and in any case you have no idea of my "generation".

It's impractical I've at least addressed some of the reasons. Shall we get a 3am taxi for the 80 year old to get a jab, from the overly tired jabber, are you paying or is the 80 year old.

if it’s an end to a way out this pandemic. Then yes I will pay for an old dear to get a taxi if she can’t afford it to get her jab done at 4am.

24 hour vaccination programme could be achieved if the will is there.

Some old folks at my daughters place have said they'll refuse it. Equally, I wonder where care homes stand with the DNR residents on this.

Outside of animal husbandry that may have caused it. And a bit of heavy handed secrecy at the start what do they need to be held to account for?

ironically we could be accused of exactly the same stuff with the new strain. Spotted months ago, told no one. And even when we identified it we didn’t lock down to the good of the world.

I’m sure there will be plenty of people out there calling for our heads soon.
Lol. Really?

Not for old people it can't, and it doesn't need to be, when it get down to young folk, maybe it will be, be were not through the old and infirm yet, anyway you carry on being deluded, I'm out.

Surely you could just organise it so younger people (healthcare workers etc) get the jab at the odd hours of the night - could even factor it into their night shifts - and let the old folk go during the day.

I hope he's right but he was making claims for tier 2 a few weeks back based off his app data. ZOE is a great app for data, but his interpretations aren't flawless

possibly he was doing so before the new variant?

We have vaccinated more than the rest of Europe combined. Just need to keep going. Everyone behaving will help and a well communicated ramped up vaccination drive. If 12 million have had it allready and 1 million plus vaccinated - we could be at 25 percent immunity. This increases every single hour we are vaccinating. The r has to drop at some point so we will get through this.

I know I am a happy clapper but I so confident we will be in a far better place by March.

Stay untra positive / soon be on the piss and on the way to City!!!

Then we could vaccinate the old people during the day and allow younger people or clinically vulnerable but able bodded people night slots.

I think if it was offered people would get it. Start a pole and see just the people on here. If they are closed at night then opening through the night wouldn't detract from the main vaccination programme it would only move it along.

Think we had a poll already..

I’ll guess that it’s because they can give out multiple, multi million pound contracts to do the job to people/ organisations that have never done it before that strangely have close ties to prominent Tory MPs/ donors.

For previous case studies see Brexit ferries and PPE contracts.
If you read the article, they're not part of the initial base-load. They will be introduced to the mix later. Getting the logistics right is critical.

20-20 hindsight is wonderful. The CMO's met first thing on Monday morning and raised the level to 5. Sturgeon declared lockdiwn immediately. Boris did 5 hours later.
You have to access the effect of measures before locking down.
Hindsight is a word hidden behind by 90%+ of failures, it's generally a shithouse word used by shithouses to try and cover for being a shithouse.

Interesting illustration of what happens when a virus becomes more infectious.

Suggests that it's actually worse for it to be more infectious than it is for it to be more deadly.

Admittedly I am a glass half empty type but March is only two months away and I find it really hard to believe that things will have improved that much by then. I haven't been keeping up with developments as honestly it is depressing me to think about the pandemic, but is the outlook really that good in your view? I had thought we were looking at summer best case scenario for improved quality of life, and into next year to get this thing completely under control, under the thinking that it's never fully going away.

I really hope you are right. Lots of people have lost loved ones, aren't able to see their friends and family, people are losing jobs and being made homeless, there's an obesity crisis going on due to increased food intake and lesser exercise, and just from a personal selfish point of view, I haven't been able to play my two or three times weekly 7 a side or football tournaments for almost a year, and the social interaction as well as the fact I absolutely adore playing football are huge in maintaining my mental health. I'm happy to hide away for another few months but I don't fancy another entire year of being trapped in the house.

In the Netherlands, after three weeks of strict lockdown, there has been little serious impact on coronavirus infection levels, despite a 16.2% drop in the number of positive tests. The drop in recorded cases was more a result of fewer tests being conduted, with 56,440 people testing positive in the week to January 5 compared to 67,388 the week before. Alas, the proportion of positive tests actually increased from 13.0% to 13.7%. It looks therefore as if the lockdown will be extended beyond January 19th. Vaccination commences today, at last.
