The government figures reported on Wednesday afternoon showed another 1,041 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus.

This was a significant increase from the 830 deaths reported on Tuesday, with both days likely to contain some deaths that took place over the Christmas and New Year period that have only just been reported.

There were also another 62,322 cases reported, an increase from Tuesday's 60,916 cases.

Yeah just have dec 25 th , no problem , kids and students back to education, no problem

Can’t help feeling worried. This lot in charge does not fill me with confidence. Pfizer do not recommend leaving 12 weeks between doses - that is worrying. Are we being guinea pigs? Are this lot grasping at straws to try and contain this damn virus?
i'd say its a bit 'collateral damage' if you get my point' who other than Pfizer could recomend the 12 weeks, like you say confidence is at an all time low now, i was at hospital this morning having stitches removed and the nurse saying - dont you just know there is going to be one massive cock up coming to light in the near future

The chief of the Royal College of Nursing was on the news last night saying the hoops were ridiculous. I suppose he has a beef with the NHS too?

And it’s just been announced that they are removing some of the more ‘ridiculous’ requirements for the volunteers.

I raised the issue last week and have had it the neck from all those hard of thinking.

Apology accepted from all of the abusers.
Abuse?? Crikey fella, be careful coming down of that horse. It looks really high.

That is rather key , if they didnt know what a virus was
yet they wore masks, by law in the US, practiced social distancing and were advised to keep houses ventilated. They knew it was airborne and passed from person to person. This current virus is following the course the Spanish flu did almost exactly.

as far as I know:
adjuvant vaccine - a way of diluting the antigen quantity without losing efficacy, typically by adding something else to the vaccine.

So the same amount of active agent can be used to make more doses, and possibly single dose options.
It's not really to stop losing efficacy, it's to boost it. Adjuvants increase the bodies ability to recognise the vaccine and increase the immune response, so you get better protection.

None. Which was why we were surprised and left scratching our heads. The practice she goes to is used by many young people so we’re wondering if there are that many waiting for it. For what it’s worth its in Fylde, Lancs.

Maybe I should call my parents and ask them to visit from Preston!

You poor flower!

You said it was the SJWs taking over. It was unnamed officials working in an institution ruled by a Conservative government for over a decade.

Loads of reasons these rules exist. All of them come from the top, they are 'neccessities' to legally protect the organisation and those working in it. No way the people involved were agenda-ing. The presence of the law is a fact of life at work. You know, the law as governed for more than a decade by the conservative government.

Glad they got rid of some. Good common sense management. Not had much opportunity to say THAT.

Yes, correct. I think that's the same thing I meant from a different perspective.

"diluting the antigen quantity without losing efficacy" - i.e. so you can use less active agent per dose because the adjuvant makes it work better.

None to her or my knowledge, which is why it came as a surprise. Actually thought my Dad would be first as he has a long list of underlying health conditions. They don’t live in a city so that may have something to do with it.

Hope your friend gets it soon.
Me too. I will ask her to pester them but she is not the kind to do so.

I guess it will come down to local factors too. But if stories like this come out we will end up with vaccine envy driven by the media and there will be black market vaccines to jump the cue which will likely be #scams on desperate older people.

That is my only real concern. If we genuinely have lots of doses it really does not matter. But if the actual vulnerable are not being reached and anyone who asks gets them that will create issues.

And I do struggle not to think that kind of chaos is possible given the track record so far of how we have administered things in government.

But great news for your mum. Just suggest she does not make a thing out of it as it might get others who have not been contacted thinking if they pester the NHS they can get it too.

And I don't think that will help.

Not a shock given what we've already learned, but good news nonetheless.

I hope the presence of the 'immunological memory' means people are effectively protected.

Would seem to be two different things to me. Like having a fire extinguisher installed for 8 months, and the place not burning down during that time. Sorry I couldn't come up with a milder image for that metaphor!

The possible extent of reinfection concerns me. Due to the mechanics of testing and the criteria for statistically reporting reinfection, it's likely to be very under-represented in the data. Unless there's 12 weeks symptom free between the cases, then it's classed as long covid.

Here’s a little positive story, of no great consequence but thought I’d share, that my mither-in-law who is 78 accompanied my father-in-law who is 84 for him to have his second Pfizer jab and whilst there she asked cheekily whether they could give her a jab and incredibly they obliged, told her to roll sleeve up and whacked it in there and then.

Nice to see a bit of red tape being ignored for once!

You cant be getting elderly and people with serious conditions out during the night
There are plenty of other people that could be vaccinated during these times.

Anyway I appear to now have some symptoms, went for a test today, fingers crossed it comes back negative, my wife and eldest now off work self isolating awaiting test. Need to arrange for some shopping somehow. All rather annoying especially as i have only been out walking our dog, so if i do have it no idea how i caught it? :-(

That was like the first old chap here that had it , he literally called the hospital and said can i have it and they said ok , pays to be cheeky now i reckon

She had to accompany him as he suffers from dementia, and just thought nothing ventured and all that so just asked in theory to save time as she would be in the next set of people anyway. Would have been easy for the people to be jobsworths and refuse but good to see common sense prevail.
