Rangers thread 2020/21

also watched the rangers v celtic game , absolute garbage , the european teams you mention are hardly european giants any championship team would give them a game , the standard of scottish football is terrible

doubt that very much with the euro teams.

the last old firm was boring yes, but as long as the points keep coming in then thats all that matters

your right its all about the dosh , used to love watching scottish football in 70's & 80's , some really brilliant players that usually ended up playing for clubs in England , but were have the players gone ? There are very few top class players who are scottish now and yet twenty/thirty years ago you could name loads of quality scottish players.
A Celtic , Rangers , Aberdeen team used yo hold its own against the best English sides , but now the gulf in class is massive , when City offer Patrick Roberts to Celtic for £8m and they cant scrape the money together is proof of the haves and have nots.

what have celtic done in recent seasons against british teams? including ourselves?

Come on lol.

Also believe celtic could afford it, they just didnt want to pay the fee

Celtic done well at home against City. Away was a good performance as well but I think City had a weakened team out.

Aberdeen drew 2-2 with Burnley on aggregate after two legs in Europa League qualifying. Burnley beat them in Extra Time.

Wolves failed to beat Braga in the Europa League group stage last year, Rangers beat them 3-2 and 1-0 in the Last 32.

And I know it’s hard to judge from friendlies, but Rangers and Celtic have swatted aside Championship teams in recent years.

Celtic pumped Sunderland 5-0, Rangers beat Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough when Rangers were absolute dog shite.

If you put Rangers in the division we’d be around 10-12th. People are forgetting Rangers compete on a regular basis at Europa League level, the level at which Tottenham, Arsenal, Wolves (last season) are at. Maybe excluding Tottenham.

agreed on all counts.

Was at that game against Sheffield.

Good post. When they've had regular Champions League money in the past, both teams have competed with the very best on the continent in groups and one off matches. It's been performing at that level consistently that has proved difficult although both teams have reached European finals within the last 15-20 years.

I'd much rather see Rangers or Celtic in knock out European football than Hoffenheim, CSKA Moscow or Basel.

We will never know how both would do in the Premiership.
No use arguing over it.
Both teams are not in the same class now compared to 10 years ago.
Larson and Laudrup days long gone.

Those days are long gone but still room for improving on what they have.

Rangers are on an upwards trajectory and no reason why they can’t be at the level of Porto, Benfica, Ajax, 4/5th placed teams in Germany etc.

There’s Porto in the last 16 of the CL who Rangers beat 3-1 on aggregate last year in the Europa League. If Rangers win their league this year, which looks highly likely - they will have two rounds of CL qualifiers to negotiate. That is the easier champions route and Rangers will be seeded.

Finishing 2nd/3rd in CL group stages is very achievable within the next year. That’ll take their revenue up to around £90m and if they can reach that £100m barrier and consistently make Champions League they’re in the land of milk and honey.

For Celtic, they’re the total opposite from Rangers. A massive rebuild is coming their way in the summer.

We’ve also lost to Wigan three times in the FA Cup in the last 8 years (one final when they were relegated, one when they were in the division below and one when they were two divisions below), and to Boro when they were in the division below.

Anything can happen in Cup games.

is that the 2nd or 3rd time this season the officials have missed a blatant red card for Morelos with the game at 0-0?

The league is over someone tell the refs, no need to be doing their bit still every week

Even Celtic fans must want to see some competition up there.

Fair play to the Rangers players for running their own “let’s see how bad an assault we can commit and stay on the pitch” competition to keep it interesting this season

Get in Rangers.

Another week closer to stopping what should’ve been the easiest 10-in-a-row ever.
Setting up for Rangers to win the league at Parkhead.

Imagine the rage from Celtic fans, as the Rangers support assemble outside their stadium to greet the champions of Scotland.

Natural order will be restored.

We've seen the rage before. I was watching from afar when Neil McCann rounded their keeper - causing Hugh Dallas to be coined, one of the simpletons to fall from the upper tier and Dallas' home to be attacked.

The most straightforward opportunity to achieve 10 in-a-row and still they can't do it.

Dallas was coined before McCann scored. I should know, I coined him.. and the fall wasn't that bad. Landed on a fat guy, he will never walk again though. Dallas was atrocious that day.

After watching the Roofe foul last night, rather than just look at a still, there's no way the referee could've seen what happened so couldn't have sent him off.

That's not to say that had it been in England with VAR, he shouldn't have been red carded, but without technology and with 2 or 3 players between the ref and the challenge, he couldn't possible have seen where Roofe's foot made contact.

He's booked him because he knows he's gone in hard but he would've been guessing at what happened if he'd sent him off.
