Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

He has that side to him but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing.
He needs to channel it properly. You can't go round doing what he did last night. Yes, it was a strong tackle on him. But you can't react like that. Even more ridiculous given the state of the game at the time. Nolito did something equally stupid against Bournemouth a few seasons back. Like last night, we were, IIRC, 4-0 up going into the last few minutes of the game, when he copped for a hard tackle. Up he got, and nutted the fella. Straight red card. Absolutely braindead reaction. I still think that that marked his card with Pep. But at least his poor unfortunate daughter got to escape that cave she was trapped in.

If we can get Haaland i can see Delap developing into his understudy , both physical specimens and combative players something we havent had since Dzeko and Negredo , definitely one for the future maybe a loan move would be to his benefit for 12 months.

Had 1 bad game and then disappeared.

What are you on about?

He was a 17 year old drafted in when we had no strikers and about 8 first team players out. He's not playing because he's an EDS player and we've got cover now. He hasn't disappeared, he's just gone back to the EDS like any 17 year old would.

Besides, he played against Birmingham after the Leicester game.

Delap will have his time. Convinced right now that Pep doesn't trust him. Not in a sense of his ability, or work ethic. More his temperament due to his age. Pep is an absolute control freak. He hates the idea of things you can't plan for, and right now I think Delap will be seen as a bit of a risk in Pep's eyes. He's got so much fire and rage in his belly that he's a red card or something waiting to happen. Obviously the chances of that are tiny, but it took Foden god knows how long to earn Pep's trust, and he still has some way to go! I think it's honestly as simple as that, which is of course a side product of Delap being young.

Either way, City hugely rate him so im not concerned.

I think he needs a loan to the Championship next season. He’s already too good for the EDS (in terms of ability, obviously he needs to work on his temperament). I could easily see him scoring 20+ goals in that league if he gets the right loan.

I think Delap can make it at the top.

But, atleast for me, I have learned to be careful in categorizing youth potential. Players like Sancho and Foden had what I call "obvious" potential, everything they showed at youth level showed they would make it at the top, and more specifically, they didn't rely on any physical strength over peers who may not have developed.

Nmecha and Solanke are 2 immediate examples I think of who look amazing at youth level, with great numbers, but then you start to think is it because they are physically superior? Now you see them at adult level and think that maybe that was a factor in their performances.

Haven't seen Delap play THAT much, but he is a physical beast. More importantly it will be interesting to know whether he can develop faster so that he isn't scoring goals due to physicality because he will lose that quicker against full adults. I think he does have that potential (he did play 1 senior game for us where he scored), but I am just not immediate in my view of his potential like Foden and Sancho.

A season in the championship side a side who play football on the deck a team who going for promotion and a team who will play him regularly.

The lad can finish. Not sure how the coaching staff will handle him. Want him to do well but you want the club to get the ST position right for when Aguero leaves. Talented lad nonetheless

I'd love to see him on the bench in the PL this season when we have a strong 1st time on the pitch. Doubt it'd happen though.
