I don't buy into much of the "media agenda" stuff, but they got caught on a narrative yesterday that they couldn't get off. They were responding to the Villa manager, and then responding to each other. The newspapers were all a lot more controlled about it.

they created the narrative & it’s always a similar theme.

My heart sinks every-time I hear Steve McManaman is announced as the co-commentator on our games.

How do we lobby BT to get him off our televised matches?

I've written my first ever complaint to BT asking them why they can't find any "expert" pundits from the other 90 clubs making up the football league and, if they insist on going down the "fanzone" route, why they don't just get ordinary fans of Liverpool and United to do the same job and pass on the cost reduction to subscribers.

The thing is, I suspect that one way or another, they get some backhanders or favours for such overt product placement.

What the fuck is Gallagher going on about on sky sports, unpalatable ???? Then he adds it's a loophole. No it's a rule!!! Agbonlahor and even Beckford saying it's sneaky, Villa robbed, what are they smoking??? Rodri was caught upfield, he wasn't standing there just waiting to sneak up and pinch the ball. Fucking hell if it wasn't us who benefitted this discussion wouldn't even be being discussed.

Genuinely can't get my head round why so many people are failing to grasp this rule.

The simple fact is when Mings controlled the ball uncontested Rodri was deemed to be ONSIDE and he can then attempt to contest the ball
and i'm struggling with the pundits ignoring the fact he was onside anyway, with two villa defenders playing him on so the rule doesn't come into play, despite what you are saying is completely correct, it didn't matter

"For example, let's imagine Rodri was in an offside position, the Villa keeper has the ball and throws it to Mings. Mings isn't looking however, it hits the back of his head and rebounds to Rodri, who is then judged to be offside as Mings is judged not to have played the ball deliberately."

@andyhinch

In answer to your question about my lack of understanding I have reposed the part of PB's post that I had clearly highlighted where it states you can be offside from a pass by the opposition keeper.

Even when pointed out he still thinks he is correct. Do you agree with him?

I was going to write to them too. But I watch their channel for free, so might be a bit of a cheek complaining about their shit, biased pundits!

If Mings is judged to have not played the ball deliberately then the offside stands. That's the current law. People need to get their heads round this.

Can I suggest Netball Corky? https://www.simplenetball.co.uk/rules/

You said he would be offside by a throw from the 'villa' keeper.

Where as it needs to be played by the opposition, he needs to be in front of the ball, and the ball has to be played forward.

0/3 aint bad.

Someone punching the ball into the net and getting away with it is morally unpalatable. Somebody blatantly diving to get a penalty is morally unpalatable. Somebody play acting to get a player sent off is morally unpalatable. Somebody winning the ball back from another player is normal and honest. Rodri wouldn't have had a clue if he was offside or not when he made that challenge, he was just doing his job. He wouldn't care, why should he it isn't his responsibility, it's the officials and var. All these words like unpalatable, not fair, doesn't sit right, this feigned outrage are all used to sully our name as per usual and whip the cretins of other club's into a frenzy. THAT is what's unpalatable.

Top post.

Sky on the Football show tried to show a comparison to our goal when the Spuds were playing the Dippers, Kane was in an offside position in the area, the ball was passed forward to him, at that point he's offside. Lovren was just in front of Kane and attempted to play the ball which ricocheted into Kane's path, he was brought down and a penalty was awarded. Lovren's attempt to win the ball was irrelevant, as soon as the ball went forward to Kane he was offside. To compare that incident with ours last night is ridiculous, apart from both being offside the decisions are incomparable, Spuds was incorrect, ours was bob on.

Cheers. There are times you just sit there and listen to the absolute fucking tripe dripping from ex professional players and a referee and want to smash the TV up, such is the sheer stupidity and unfair criticism of their so called expert opinion.

As for Dean Smith just saying juggling balls or some other such bollocks to the officials, that's exactly what it is, bollocks. He should be banned for a few games and sent along with Mings to a rules refresher course as they don't understand or know them. Maybe that would save them from making utter tools of themselves live on TV.

Kane was onside with the current application of the law though as Lovren made a deliberate attempt to play the ball. Doesn’t matter that he was in an offside position once that happened.

It’s only Morally Unpalatable because it’s city! Gallagher in the payroll of sky gives them what they won’t hear! But as always on these shows we have no come back to show them examples where we were on the end of similar decisions and was talked about on a very different note.

But the keeper has thrown it out so there is no offside to be considered whether it hits Mings on the back of the head or he heads it back.

This is a completely different scenario to a ball being played forward by a City player.
And in most cases, the attacking players are not in front of the ball when it is thrown by the goalkeeper, so this is doubly irrelevant.
