I think the last couple of press conferences haven’t been great from a news perspective to be honest. The number of vaccines being administered is the shining light though. Great achievement so far on that I think.

I thought yesterday’s news about the take up amongst Asian and Black communities was concerning, as these are people in their 80’s and medical people declining it. If it’s that bad in these age groups it could be terrible when it comes to younger people. There could be millions of people at the end of this process who have refused to be vaccinated.

I also think the comment about vaccines maybe not work as well on the South African and Brazilian variants and this being a concern to them was worrying.

Everything is now resting on the vaccines working. Without that we have no hope of a return to normality anytime soon. Boris mentioned a 15 Feb review but let’s face it that’s going to be a token gesture and Easter now seems to be the next timeframe. That probably means schools back after Easter around 19 April which is 3 months away and even then only if everything goes according to plan.

How do you stop the import of these South African and Brazilian variants without closing borders? It’s almost impossible so that means we have to keep these border and quarantine restrictions going until it is proven that vaccines do work effectively against these variants.

i can’t see international travel being on the agenda for some time and think restaurants and pubs will be shut until May /June at the earliest now.

A theory based on some limited research it isn’t a fact and as yet isn’t the science. Science is a theory proved by observation. Which we don’t have yet.
My daughter and any doctor on Covid duty will tell you at least 20% more people are dying after admittance than they were at the start of November. Increased morbidity especially in younger age groups (40-60)

we can only go on new scientic discovery , we just dont have the time to wait for it to be tested by time
It isn't a scientific discovery. and it isn't proven by anyone

" may be associated with a higher degree of mortality, says PM Boris Johnson.
Scientists are urgently studying these mutated versions to understand what threat they pose.

It may become a scientic discovery. until we know one way or the other by testing the theory, then we take precautions. But it is only a theory.

It's time supermarkets started doing their bit aside from adverts going on about masks and only one person shopping, but then doing bugger all to enforce any of these rules.

I went to do my weekly shop at Aldi today. Although not overly busy, I'd try to time it so it wasn't, there was still couples and whole families shopping. Kids running about grabbing stuff, none in masks, sitting on the counter at the back where you pack your shopping, it winds me up.

Food shopping is the only place I mix now. I have no choice but to go there or I'll starve and deliveries are once again booked up in advance. I understand single parents may have no option but to take their kids but the majority were full families. I feel like I'm playing bloody Russian roulette once a week.

Dont listen to boris, listen to whitty and valence

if you or anyone thinks corbyn, Abbott and Mcdonell would be fit to lead this I give up

The uk response has resulted in the worst death rate in the world.

Regardless of who you might think could do worse still, nobody has actually managed to do worse.

That strongly suggests that literally anybody else would be better.

I really don't think it's sunk in just how shocking the uk death toll is.

Spot on mate, it all goes out of the window the minute you're through the door.

I read a very distressing article today about a 33 year fitness trainer who committed suicide a few months ago because of lockdown. He simply couldn't cope anymore.
Male suicide in particular has risen sharply in the last year.
These are the hidden side effects that the government isn't telling people about during this pandemic or trying to address.
Last year I felt rotten and contemplated not carrying on and sought help.
The government should really be giving people some hope for the future instead of there daily bulletins of despair.
Yes the figures are not good but the press conferences are awful with Vallance and Whitty and that idiot Hancock.
They give nobody any hope and its always doom and fucking gloom day in day out.
The government needs to issue a road map for recovery and give dates and people some hope.
Otherwise hundreds of others won't want to carry on.
Shame on this government.
The problem with road map idea is that this bloody virus keeps kicking us in unexpected ways, making a nonsense today of what seemed sensible yesterday. Still, as one getting the abdabs now, agree some hope must be given.
