Certainly a lot better than the EU, who are making a bit of a mess of it at present.

Firstly, there's nothing we've done that was precluded by EU membership.

Secondly, the amount of vaccine affaires at the moment is limited by supply. It would be physically impossible fir the whole of the EU to do what we are.

I have a colleague in Prague who although only in his mid 30s takes this pandemic extremely seriously and has done so from the start. He has been scathing in his criticism after the government opened up last year after the initial successful lockdown and it has clearly been a disaster since.

Yup. They're actually comparable to us.

It's time supermarkets started doing their bit aside from adverts going on about masks and only one person shopping, but then doing bugger all to enforce any of these rules.

I went to do my weekly shop at Aldi today. Although not overly busy, I'd try to time it so it wasn't, there was still couples and whole families shopping. Kids running about grabbing stuff, none in masks, sitting on the counter at the back where you pack your shopping, it winds me up.

Food shopping is the only place I mix now. I have no choice but to go there or I'll starve and deliveries are once again booked up in advance. I understand single parents may have no option but to take their kids but the majority were full families. I feel like I'm playing bloody Russian roulette once a week.
I get into mine 10 mins after they open on Monday or Tuesday morning, gives the few that are there at 8.00 time to clear the first isle then I sail round in 15-20 mins with my list on my mobile and back home.

Job done...hunter gathered for another week.

Isn't it quicker to write your list on paper? Whenever I try this on my mobile I keep pressing the wrong keys

We live on a small island with a big population. There’s really not a lot going for us in a pandemic, apart from the NHS the British stalwart spirit and our generous instinct towards charity. We elected this Government, can’t see much of an alternative to be honest. The vaccination effort is truly amazing. When I went for mine this week the staff, volunteers, organisation as faultless. When asked the questions I truly felt emotional and a bit choked.

GM Weekly Pop Score over Past 7 days:

Pop(ulation) score is cases per 100,000 population to create a score that can be directly compared with anywhere else. Used by Gov UK to determine if a place is in trouble or not.

The higher the number the worse. The lower the better. Over 500 is usually on government watch. Over 1000 is real trouble. In between more and more problems depending on how high.

Score matches cases week to week - unlike overall Pop which can only rise daily and measures performance across the pandemic.

These weekly numbers can go up or down as cases day to day and week to week are compared. So the rise or fall and by how much over those past seven days tells you if each place is doing poorly or improving.

Going up bad, Going down good.

Borough // Weekly Pop Today // Weekly Pop 7 days ago // Rise or fall

Oldham
259 // 355 // Down 96......Best in GM

Rochdale 323 // 403 // Down 80

Trafford 326 // 480 // Down 154

Stockport 329 // 489 // Down 160

Tameside 333 // 433 // Down 100

Bury 341 // 480 // Down 139

Wigan 361 // 493 // Down 132

Salford 362 // 460 // Down 98

Bolton 363 // 438 // Down 75

Manchester 392 // 501 // Down 109

This is a picture of a week where cases have fallen everywhere in GM. It looks much brighter than the last table I posted that is for sure.

Things can change fast in these numbers but this offers the best illustration of state of play right now in GM.

Works fine mate, I know what's where inside so I just add to my list on Google Docs during the week with things I'm told we need and delete them off it as they go into my trolly.

My main issue is my glasses steaming up!!!!!

You're kidding me.

Despite being on an island, with a highly educated and generally compliant population, being one of the richest countries in the world, having a highly advanced life science sector and a health care system at the direct disposal of the government we have the worst death toll in the entire world*

Our pandemic response has been nothing short of a national disgrace. It's absolutely indefensible, and there should be a reckoning for the guilty.

*bar Slovenija, lest anyone wish to quibble.

And Belgium... and it’s worth noting that the new variant has taken us from 7th to 3rd in a fortnight.

Also “generally compliant population” is something I completely disagree with, I think we have one of the worst populations for sticking to the rules. There are many countries with weaker restrictions than ours that have done much better.

I am not saying being 7th before the new variant is acceptable but it’s important to be accurate.

So Russia, which recently announced that the actual death toll was over three times higher than the 'official' toll doesn't count for example? The current death toll is somewhere in the mid 50k region but it was actually over 180k weeks ago is just an example of the huge disparity in truthful reporting.

Presumably China has had about 30k deaths as announced?

Was there any more on the stories that these new varients came about from treating imuno compromised patients with blood plasma from covid survivors

They did seem to stop the trial abruptly not long after.
