General Videogame Thread

Just dusted off the old PS3 from the loft to give the kids something to play with during lockdown. It's still a great piece of kit, even after the update i had to install, the menus are snappy even though games take a while to download and install (but the new ones do as well, i think..not had another console since). Just downloading Minecraft for them now.

I still play minecraft on an xbox 360 with Junior. Its slightly corrupted and there is no more product support but functionally its fine, a bit slow compared to the PS4 and gaming PC versions we also have but for a 5 year old it works great. Being a touch slower helps.

Amazon dropped some PS5's this morning, lasted about 5 minutes with the site crashing and unable to add to basket before selling out. All these websites are so ill equipped to not only stop bots buying them all but also deal with any kind of traffic.

I tried to play it with the 8yr old, but i've no idea wtf im doing or the point of the whole game tbh.

Worrying for Amazon, since there's is hosted on their own AWS which the promote as being the best available. It's supposed to scale up and down, automated, depending on demand. Clearly isn't working very well!

Decided to download Resident Evil 7 off Game Pass and its absolutely terrifying. Only a couple hours in so far but it's excellent and gripping. Not to mention gory as fuck.

Fantastic game. Very excited for the next one

There is no point to be honest. The game comes with 2 main modes;

Survival where you can die (so you avoid dying) and you have to work to get stuff that helps you survive and anything you want to make or build. This is the origins of the game - the hardest blocks /materials to find are gold and diamonds. You only get them by mining (digging down or going down a cave) - hence the name mine-craft.

Creative where you don't die and you have access to all the different kinds of blocks without working for it. This mode just allows you to build whatever you want - hence creative.

I got to the end of CyberPunk for my character, V. Does anyone know if you get to play as a different storyline if you choose one of the other roles at the start? I remember it asked me if i wanted to be in the city, the desert, or another option i forget.
There are multiple endings for V, the first one i had was a bit dis-satisfying so i'm currently trying again with other options. Apparently it all depends on what you choose in certain conversations, and there are possibly as many as 6 or 7 different endings.

I've played through twice, once as street-kid and second tme as corpo. Both stories merge after about 25-35 mins at the point where you flash forward the things that you did with Jackie. Then you find yourself in the car with Jackie and do the mission where you rescue Sandra Dorsett from the bath . The storylines are the same just some extra options that are marked in the dialogue with a reply that only a Corpo or Streetkid would use. I've not seen anything else different.

Got up at 1:30am this morning as stock dropped at Argos for PS5's. After 2 hours of pissing about, finally managed to get one and arrives today between 2-6pm. Any recommendations on first games? Is Cyberpunk worth it yet? Or better waiting for all the bugs to be ironed out? Was thinking of GOW as i havent played that on ps4, but thats just a remastered version isnt it?

How did you find out about a 1.30am stock drop?
I downloaded discord on my phone and joined a ps5 Stock Uk group. Gives updates on when the retailers are releasing stock. Would never of known without it. Crazy how many people were up at that time all over the UK trying to get them.

Apparently Scalpers managed to acquire a great number of them in the Argos drop yesterday. Decided I’m just going to wait until end of the year before I buy one. I don’t particularly fancy waiting in an online queue for hours without guarantee of getting one.

The Argos one was defo the most accessible drop yet imo. Most other sites have just crashed and sold out in minutes cause of the scalpers, where it seems a lot of genuine people got them last night. It is a total pain in the ass though and pooor from the retailers.

Cyberpunk isn’t worth buying yet on console. Wait until the end of this year when they have a true next gen update for it. Most of the issues will probably be fixed by then as well.

Worth taking a look at Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Spider-Man: Remastered.

Browsed eBay at PS5 prices and the scalpers are selling unused, unopened for an average of £750.

Not sure if its ethical to do so, but there's a lot of call for eBay to suspend all PS5 sales on their platform and for similar sites to do the same and for future sales to be by personal confirmation/authorisation only and all sales/purchases to be tracked. Not sure it it will help the situation but something needs to be addressed.

Shops need to limit the stock to 1 ( maybe 2 ) per order and lock down on the payment method so you cant just loop around and buy another with the same payment card.

Problem is the shops dont care until some legislation is put in like there was for ticket scalpers, to the shop its just a sale so why would they spend cash they dont need too.

Hopefully 1 online store will start it off and other will follow. only reason I can see anyone doing it though is good will of buyers and hope they will come back to the shop to buy the games.

Did anyone play Resident Evil 8 demo?

I love Resident Evil as the series but never bought 7 (as it was First Person, I thought it would be rubbish)

The demo is really cool though and I may have to purchase the full game when it's out.

I'm currently playing 7 now and it's absolutely incredible. It's so tense and genuinely terrifying. It's on Gamepass if you have it and would definitely recommend. Don't let the first person aspect put you off.
