Southampton were down to 10 men in the second minute before any goals were scored and then down to 9 men at 7-0. Wasn't 7-0 enough at that point? The goal difference will affect Southampton too, so the "moral" argument doesn't hold any weight for me. In a cup game it doesn't matter how much you get beat by, all our result meant was the next tie was in the bag which meant we could rest as many as we wanted for the next leg. This on the other hand could utterly destroy Southampton's confidence, other PL clubs(Burton just went back to playing league football) would sense that and before they know they could be in a relegation battle with a crap goal difference.
I can see why he brought it up, the press do my head in too, lets stop giving them free passes because we've come to accept their biased shite.
I've seen Everton sides who've bottled games in a less embarrassing manner, and that is quite an achievement.I don't think i've ever seen another game where the players completely give up as soon as the first player is sent off.
