Had a phone call off my mum's nursing home this morning. Though it was Covid related, but apparently not. Her cancer has progressed but she has refused any treatment or "interference." She has always been like this.
So an end of life plan will be put into place, but I can only go and see her when she is nearing the end.
Have wept a few times today. She deserves someone there, at the end

really hope you can to be beside your mum as soon as humanly possible,
 
Walked through Manchester City centre and they have mass testing with lateral flow tests set up in the Town Hall extension. I looked through the doors and there were no queues, just a couple of soldiers sat behind a desk. It could be appointment only though
 
I really am hoping that this is the beginning of the end, Daily death announcements back below 1000 has to be a real positive sign. The vaccine rollout should make a huge impact as well, spring just around the corner and better weather to come.

Just another day closer to normality.

It was and may even have stopped these new variants from spreading quite so fast.

This is not the time to assess who did what and why and I agree that finally and with the most important phase of all they are doing a pretty good job on the vaccinations. So credit where it is due.

With my reservations over the care home situation in England which hopefully now seem to be receding and probably mostly applied to pre Christmas when we only had the vaccine that was - as Nicola Sturgeon said - difficult to get into care homes and slowed Scotland down.

England it appears chose not to slow down and the deaths that resulted are hopefully now receding as post Christmas we had the easier vaccine to get into care homes and have presumably been doing so with that.

Who was right and wrong here is to debate another day. Right now the vaccination programme seems to be speeding along and we should reap the rewards. So we should focus on the increasing number of positives and be patient and not be desperate to rush out of this too rapidly and risk losing the edge we have gained.

Two or three extra weeks of lockdown in March if it saves our Summer is a price worth paying.

Hopefully we will understand that when the time comes.

I occasionally feel light headed wearing one but it’s really not that bad at all, some people are just selfish and think they’re clever not doing it.

I know , with my covid lungs back in the summer and the heat i was panting and really dizzy but i managed to wear one so i am not buying a lot of the excuses , noel thought he was being a rebel but he just went right down in mine and i hope everyones expectations

Absolute fucking wankers. I can’t believe those tweets, or maybe I can.

Like you say, they’re not super comfortable but I also never found them over restrictive. If you genuinely can’t wear a mask, you should get yourself straight to A&E as there is something seriously wrong
 
Regional Summary:

Not a lot has changed today. Most places up a little. Fairly even split.

South:

East up 367 to 2131

London up 295 to 3268.

South East up 285 to 2615

South West up 235 to 1177


Midlands:

East Midlands up 8 to 1728

West Midlands up 128 to 2453


North:

North East up 97 to 997

Yorkshire DOWN 448 to 1157 - Yorkshire still top dog in the UK with very low numbers

And

North West up 284 to 2866

The three big regions London, South East and North West within 600 of each other and up by 295, 285 and 284 in the day shows the equity which a national lockdown seems to have created.
 
Greater Manchester summary:

A quiet day here.

Cases up just 50 to 1042.

So as North West rose by 284 that is well below the average and so GM as a proportion of the NW total fell by a full 2% to 36.4%

5 boroughs up and 5 boroughs down. None by huge numbers.

Only 6 boroughs under 100 (Stockport and Wigan up 19 and 41 respectively to miss out) but Salford falling 9 to just go under.

Otherwise nothing drastic.

The best day was had by Trafford again who right now is back to where it once was as best in GM and smashing through Stockport's once big lead on the overall Pop Score to most likely take over in a week or two unless Stockport consistently starts to drop more than it is doing.

even my heavily pregnant Mrs who had Covid herself quite bad manages it.

There’s no excuse for nearly everyone imo

Hi Healdplace, many thanks for all you posts they are most helpful.

Just so you are aware the vaccination clinic i have been working at has had no vaccine diverted and they are ahead of target booking in below 70s starting next week.

As of Thursday, only 254 individuals out of the 416,900 who were already a week after the second Pfizer shot – the time where the immunity is considered to kick in – got infected with the virus, the organization reported. Moreover, those who were found positive to the disease experienced only light symptoms and just four of them were hospitalized, all of them in light conditions.

I can drink to that! (tbh can pretty much drink to anything nowadays, but you get my drift)
