Wouldn`t be surprised to see Sancho leave, but re Haaland, I think it would be very tempting to sell him for e.g. £100m this summer rather than the £67m release clause a year later

Maybe mate. I was not suggesting that's at we should do, I just think that's what we will do. But we'll see.

Hopefully mate. We're going to be very light up front next season, so we could really do with getting him in the summer. Plus, it's not like we've spent much on strikers recently. Pep's spent a total of £25m on Jesus, so they may be willing to give him a chunk of money for Haaland. The problem is, Dortmund will want an absolute fortune for him and that leech, Raola, will also want a ridiculous payday from it too. Recent history has shown we dont like to be bent over but we might make an exception here.

Dortmund never seem to be a club to hang on to players if the right deal is there. If he could go for 120-140 million maybe this summer, i think they take it rather than waiting a year and getting half that for him. They are never shy at bringing in new young kids and taking punts on players and it works really well for them.
 
We do have some cards to play with Dortmund, the Sancho sell on money,Braaf interests them apparently. Would offering Delap on loan or sold with a buy back be another option. Think he’s the sort of player they like to develop and if we had Haaland his opportunities with Jesus and Haaland ahead of him would be quite limited.
 
I'd prefer Mbappe if i"m honest right now, but I would be absolutely buzzing to sign this guy too. Especially as I was buzzing to sign his Dad years ago. I remember hearing how Alf was an absolute athlete with the fitness of an Olympian. It was very unfortunate for us that his knee went. Surly it would be great for him to see his son here? And I'm sure he still hates Utd.
 
Is there a scenario where Dortmund sell Sancho first to the rags and wait another year for Haaland. Have we seen clubs selling their two prized assets the same window unless they are going bankrupt.
City should not try to throw lowball offers unless City have have already a deal with Raiola and Haaland's dad. Honestly sometimes I prefer the Bayern way, make the situation so untenable and the player so convinced, nothing the parent club can do about it. They did that to us vis-a-vis Sane.

Yes, I can see that, although it could happen the other way round, Sancho has longer on his contract and they will get more for Halaand if they sell him this summer due to his sell on clause. To be honest either way works for us: get him for next season as Aguero’s star quality starts to fade or get him for less the season after when Aguero will probably be gone (I feel quite emotional typing those last words).

£120-140??? Not a chance from anybody, £100million tops this summer and probably a good bit less.
 
Just to get into some things of the past few pages of posts:

I do not think that Werner or Havertz stand for German attackers. Werner is a player that benefitted of a counterattacking/pressing system at Leipzig where a hardworking central forward was played together with him. He always was a player that needed to have a run to score big and had phases in which he did not score at all. His main attribute is speed - not handling the ball. In a system where he can play out his strength he is class - in other systems he will not click.

Havertz is a nice number 10 or creative second striker - but he does not offer much workrate etc. That is actually the type of player that will always get hyped as youngster atleast in Germany (I have seen that since years) but we know how hard it is on that position. Bayern did not go for him as they have Müller on that position who apart from higher offensive numbers and besides his "lean shape", brings in workrate, grit and leader abilities. At Leverkusen he was the big young rising talent stripped of much responsibilities - he did a lot less pressing and defensive work than the other offensives and midfielders.

Haaland - he is still a raw gem with his attacking. He has to work on a lot things to be the complete forward - and he will not get that in Dortmund because that is not the environment for it. He has the body needed - and very good goalscoring instincts - but a lot other things are decent. Dortmund needs the kind of striker he is now. It is similar to Lewandowski who needed about 2 further seasons at Bayern to really get the complete striker he is now. He seems to have a good mentality and wants to work hard and is eager to learn - that is what you can see and what is reported of him from Dortmund. (But that can change if he is sugar coated too much or his environment changes - he is still young - even the wrong girlfriend can change that)

No - not every player that works fine in one system works fine in another.

Mate we all love Aguero to bits but he’s barely kicked a ball for us in 12 months. He will always be a finisher, but his star quality on the pitch has already faded. He’d already started to adjust his game in the 1-2 years before that bad injury. He’s not coming back to a level that will be good enough for where we want to be, not as first choice striker anyway.

Despite still being very good he wasn’t even the same player in 2017-2019 title winning years. You can argue his goal return remained consistent, around the 30 goal a season mark but peak Aguero would have bagged 45+ in that side in my opinion.

I'd guess a lot depends on if Messi comes or not. If he signs, there won't be much space left in the middle, considering Foden's recent success as a CF/false 9 - they could even play together in the 'hole', feeding wingers and scoring themselves

I personally don't think the style matters TOO much as long as the quality and attitude are there. I think Pep can work with players that aren't perfect for the 'Pep-ball' system and mould them into an ideal player eg Aguero, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Walker.

I'm a big believer in variety anyway, so having an option so radically different to Jesus should give us strength.

However, you are right to point out that he has certain limitations that make him an unorthodox choice in some ways. If he were to sign I think expectations would need to be tempered, at least for the first year, possibly two. He'd get goals galore but the games he wouldn't score in he'd really stick out like a sore thumb.


A good wide goalscoring forward option is definitely ideal, but there aren't many about I think who really hit that top level. The way Foden is developing, as well as a possibly incoming Messi could really plug that hole. Don't forget Torres either.

It would be a Pep dream to have all those players rotating around the front line.
 
I think 100m is a pipe dream. Yes he has a clause the next year but Dortmund have struggled and have instability right now. He could be the difference for them in making CL and earn the difference in transfer fee just that way. I think he’d either have to agitate or you’d have to offer enough that Dortmund cannot escape the financial sense of an offer. I know they like their youth striker but you just can’t buy another Halaand with 100m. It’s a lot of goals for them to replace
 
Dortmund is losing 2-0. These guys ain't getting champions league next season from the looks of it. Are the stars aligning for Haaland to play at Stadia de Etihad next season!
