I think both of you are right, moving those two midfielders to defense has been atrocious but Thiago in the middle has been just as bad. He's playing slow and taking too many touches. Those dipper forwards are used to running onto long balls over the top and Thiago cant or wont play that way. He also looks bereft of confidence which cant be helping.

Thiago is playing badly because he's playing next to 36 year old Milner and 30 year old Wijnaldum neither of which is giving the defensive platform that makes a player like thiago useful.

You only need to look at how Gundogan and Rodri struggled when they were in a two, but are thriving with a 3rd player in midfield to see how much these midfield balances effect how individuals look.

He'll say it wasn't a 3-1 game at all. The dippers should have had 12 penalties, 6 of Leicester's players should have been sent off, the ref disallowed the 14 goals the dippers scored whilst no one was looking, etc etc...
