Erling Haaland

Don't get me wrong I will love to see him join us and we do need a striker to replace Aguero and create competition for Jesus.

Just looking at recent signings he just does not fit the profile in terms of price, you will need to overpay to get him which does not align with the strategy of the Club targeting targeting value players, which I think is the right approach. Only time will tell.

Recent signing have been focused on our defence, forward are and always have been more expensive. Looking at our defence last year we signed the 5th most expensive defender in history and though we all want to forget Mendy was the worlds most expensive defender when we bought him....

We have not been afraid to spend or even break world records, we after all have 6 of the 12 most expensive defenders in history but i.d agree it’s clear we set a value on players and won’t overpay and have pulled out of bidding wars where we think we’d have to overpay.

As such the question should be what value do we place on Haaland? For context mbappe went for £165m to PSG, Felix for £114m, Dembele £97m, Haaland is 20 and has a goal ratio of nearly a goal a game in one of the top leagues in the world, only mbappe is really comparable so his market value is probably £150m+. Truth is other than mbappe (who PSG would never sell to us) there are no other players in the world in his age bracket who are close in terms of goal ratio and there isn’t a glut of promising young forward especially none comparable. What value do you think we’d place on Foden, well Haaland is younger and has a history of delivering at the top level for last 18 months in the traditional most glamour / expensive position.

All that said given the pandemic there is unlikely to be a bidding war and due to Haaland ‘s release clause of €75 in 2022 Halland is going to cost considerably less than his market value this summer and as such I don’t see Man City pulling out because we believe he’s overvalued. Also due to the release clause I don’t see this getting into a bidding war as Haaland effectively will pick his club, if he picks us all we have to do is meet the minimum value Dortmund will accept, not Match United/Chelsea and Dortmund due to their financial losses at the club will likely accept. We then just have to put together a financial package the player will fund acceptable, in that he could wait a year and clubs would get him on the cheap he salary expectation maybe high.

To be honest it wasn’t for his release clause forcing Dortmund’s hand this summer and the impact of the Pandemic I’d agree this deal would be highly unlikely as you’d be looking at stupid money and so much competition for his signature. As such your recent history comment is fair, but we’re not living in normal times and In the current environment we as a club are in a very strong financial position and I think were ina good position to agree a transfer fee with the club and a financial package with the player that all parties will find acceptable.

Ultimately i think this will come down to the player and where he wishes to play, if he wants one of the Spanish giants or Bayern he’ll wait a year, if salary is his major concern he’ll end up at United if footballing project at a stable club with best manager in the world he’ll come to Man City, I 100% think we’ll be in for him, I think we’re in a strong position financially and footballing wise (maybe even more attractive if Messi comes) but where he lands up is ultimately out of our hands as Haaland holds all the cards On this one.

What is a Scottie Pippin?
Scottie Pippen (autocorrect change his last name) was one of the best most decorated NBA players in the league (maybe history) who played for the Chicage Bulls with Jordan. He signed a very long career ending contract with the Bulls and towards the end of his contract found himself like 122 best paid player in the league, considerably undervalued and as such felt really disenfranchised, it’s recognised as one of the worst contracts in history. I simply used him as an example of why I didn’t think Haaland would entertain a 8 year contract Especially as Haaland is holding all the card due to his low release clause in 2022.

Thanks for the answer. Are you from Chicago yourself?

Will Dortmund be prepared to let Haaland and Sancho leave?
Going to be interesting.

Dortmunds recent sells have turned out good, lewa, dembele, gundo, etc. we should be all over halaand, he has shown the same level as those players when they were

They’ve got a very good eye for a prospect so if they can get 200 million combined in a pandemic I’m sure they will be able to set their squad up for the next 10 years

I have heard from a pretty good source that we will not be signing Haaland. In fact the source said there are no plans at all to sign a new forward.

So I wouldn't get your hopes up, i rarely ever post what my source says, but he has never once been wrong.

Don't ask who it is either, i will not say, i trust the man and he is a good fella whose company I enjoy,

Lmao

We are playing the best football without our two star players, I would rather add depth to the team than splash big money on a player, that is something United will do.

You want to build a team that is bigger than the sum of its players, exactly like we are playing now, that seems to be the philosophy of the Club right now.
You’d have been ruling out Aguero for the same reasons ten years ago I take it?

No it isn’t at all.
They won’t change their mind (or their mentality). They will keep coming back to this thread with the same tired arguments about Raiola, price, type of signing etc, that anyone can disprove at this point, or worse, this notion that we are not even interested in him, which given the amount of different credible sources pointing to the contrary, at this point just sounds stubborn and narrow-minded. We just have to put up with it until the transfer window.

No idea if your contact's info is genuine, but it sounds logical. All these Haaland links look like another 'Bruno Fernandes' story for me. The guy doesn't fit the profile of a Pep forward and would be too expensive
