The best in the history of the game and still the best in the world. No brainier. The media machine is in full on FUD mode (fear, uncertainty and doubt) like they did when we signed Yaya, David and Kun.

Don’t fall for it. Sign Messi, we sweep all before us for 2 years.

Watched him last night and he stuck to walking pace or less throughout.
I’m perplexed by the desire to get him now that he’s lost all his movement.
IMO he’s still an amazing talent with the ball at his feet but he wouldn’t run for the last bus nowadays so I wouldn’t want him in our team because we need 11 players on the pitch, not 10 grafters and a highly paid celebrity playing a walk on part.
I‘d have loved to have him join us 3 years ago, but he simply can’t do what he used to be able to do so, I think we should go get a young emerging talent and he should go out to pasture in the MLS.

He hasn’t. He’s not a whippet anymore, but walking around the pitch is his middle finger to the club that he has given everything to, who returned the favour by renegading on an agreement and trashing his reputation.

We already sold Angelino at the weekend.
Have we? I knew his activation was triggered t didn’t know it’d actually gone through - as they didn’t take the option to buy last season. Ok well that’s down already :) (although I’d have quite liked to have kept him)

Same, would be more use than Mendy.

I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle, insofar as he doesn't have much running left in him, but to hell if he's going to be doing that running for that president and that manager.

Unless you’re a good mate of Messi’s and he’s told you that he’s on a go slow for sure then I’m not convinced that he’s stopped running as a ‘fuck you‘ to his club.
I actually like to think that’s he’s a good professional and that he gives his all for his ridiculously bloated salary but I could be wrong and if that is the case then I wouldn’t want a player who takes the money and deliberately short changes his team mates and supporters.

I think he’s been the best in the world by a fair margin, that he’s been running all his life, that he’s just got to a point where he’s had to slow down and that having their team built around a slow and ageing Messi is now the prime cause of Barca’s recent struggles on the pitch.
I don’t think they’ll win jack until they move him along and start to play as a team of 11 players again.

However, I’m happy to be proven wrong. If we do take him then it’ll be because Pep think’s he can still get a tune out of him and Pep knows better than me of course so I won’t be moaning if that happens.

If anyone has ever watched Messi they would notice he has walked around the pitch for most of his career it’s nothing new. Pretty sure he has been told to not exert too much energy at times and use it when we has the ball which I would say he has done to pretty good effect......

I have seen the guy live a few times and he was walking around back then as well.

This guy would improve our attacking output 30% I reckon, might be a slight negative defensively but overall a positive.

pretty sure he can press in a team which is a well pressing functioning team, something which Barcelona isn’t and haven’t been for a long time

We need to change the team around him to make sure everyone else running into the ground for him as he wont do much defending, running back, pressing etc.

We need to ask KDB, Sterling, Gundo etc to dig deep and work harder for the team 3x more.

but on the other side Messi will be able to help us unlock defences, parked buses, create/score chances from nothing, have defenders on him more meaning others may have more space to attack etc.
He will score loads of freekicks, pens too.

Messi lost pace, intensity, workrate a lot but David Silva did as well, or imagine how would Lescott would play for us now. :D

The crazy amounts dont make sense tho, especially the 3 years at City and more somewhere else, I dont see him having 3 more seasons in a European top club. He will be washed and cooked broccoli in that very last season and more injuries possibly while any club would still need to kind of start him week in week out to make his salary make sense.

You make a good point, he has always walked, and stood still in games. However at his peak when he became involved it would be a moment of brilliance, ,rapid movement and devastating finishing.I am also privileged to have watched him live on occasions in Spain over the last 2 decades. By far the best player I have ever seen.
However the deep lying Messi we have now will never be again at his peak. From being the best player on the planet, he has become someone capable of the odd moment of magic.
There are positives if he comes, an initial amazing fanfare, what would follow could well be damaging for all concerned.
Having had a house in Spain for 20 years, I am fully aware of that which surrounds Messi, the sports papers which report on Messi every day, the TV coverage, the magazines, shirts, posters.....
My local village pop 364; had trips to Barcelona to watch Messi(went on one) he is used to having everything his way, and it has become an issue in Spain, I really don't know if that will affect our club, nobody does.
I also think pep does not want to have those issues, if it happens, it will be a ride.
