Can you imagine Lionel Messi just standing around whilst world class players around him are running around like mad men all playing for each other in a finely tuned formation, making runs off the ball and offering for the ball for 90 mins none stop? No me neither. If he comes here it'll be to win the champions league and being the best player ever lived, I think he'd appreciate that he'd need to put a bit of effort to 1. make it happen and 2. to not be totally outshone by the likes of Kev, Raheem etc, etc. He's walking around at the moment because he's playing in a place he loves but doesn't want to be there, in an empty stadium, with players that are no where near his quality. The amount of times he gave it to Dembele last night only for him to fuck up time and time again. Also, I doubt Pep will be saying "Lionel come to City. You don't have to put any effort in. You can just take pens and free kicks" The only way he comes here is if he's hungry and invigorated by what Pep says. I can't see any other path than him coming here - but who knows? Fingers crossed

He kept on pointing to various Barcelona players to give him the ball outside the 18 yeard area where he does most of his damaged. They didn't.

Think.

You all know how Pep will use him. Apart from tactically, he managed him for years, and Pep knows him as good as any other Manager does.

Please think of this. In no particular position.

Messi-KDB-Gungodan-Sterling-Jesus/Sergio.

Would you be able to afford both and comply with FFP? Messi might be on a free but his package is huge.
Yeah, we wouldn't be paying the full whack as he'd be finishing up in NY and we'd have commercial partners breaking down the door the second we unveiled him. Laporte (former Barca president and current candidate) reckons he's worth €250m a season in revenue to Barca, half of that and we're laughing.

Eddy
Cancello Dias Stones/Laporte Alaba(keep Angelino or Mendy if he wants Madrid)
Rodri
Foden Kev
Messi Sergio/Jesus Raz

out Angelino (18m) Mahrez (65m) Mendy (20m) Harrison (8m) Braff (15m) Roberts (5m) Sandler (5m) Herrera (10m) Pedro Poro (8m) Nmecha (5m) = 159m

Fuck me we'd be invincible. And that's with no transfer fee's. Use what we get in outgoing players to pay the wages for new contracts for Messi, Alaba, Kev and Sergio. We could even afford Haaland and give Fern another year!!!!

A bit football manegerish I know but partly realistic, and no outgoing transfer fee's (unless we go for Haaland) God our club has been run brilliantly these last 5/6 years to set anything like this up :))))

We already sold Angelino at the weekend.

Haaland any day over Messi. Why sign him for a year or two and miss out on Haaland who will give us 5/6/7 years service and probably still make a profit when sold
Last I checked we weren't in the business of selling star players to turn a profit.

I don't want Messi here. He is old, wouldn't press and the team will change to suit and flow through him.

And when he gets injured ( which he will at 33 and in a more physical league. We'd have regressed.

I'd rather Haaland or Mbappe. Hope he stays at Barca
Well done for having an alternative opinion, balls to the herd ;-)

Mahrez no chance getting 65m 35/40m max Mendy best we could do would be a loan Braff 15 no chance 7/10m max

To be fair to the sceptical people, signing a 34 year old is alien to us now (unless it’s the clone putter-outer 3rd choice keeper).

Messi has been the best player in the world for a decade or more. No one is disputing that.

Some fans are questioning what level of Messi we would get. It’s obviously not peak Messi, but it’s impossible to judge his level this season as he’s in a poor side that he didn’t want to be in.

I think that putting Messi in our side would motivate him as he has a good chance of winning. I also think that we could manage his game time better and give him the rest he needs to maximise what he has got left to give for the longest period possible.

I don’t blame those sceptical fans for being sceptical as it is a bit of an unknown risk to take and it’s expensive potentially.

However, this is Messi. If we can get him, I would in a heartbeat.
Agree.

I’m getting David Silva last two seasons vibes from a possible Messi deal. I’d be happy with that!!

Just to watch him turn out for us at home for a season would be enough for me if I’m being honest.....my lad is 8 and it would create memories of this club few (if any ) other kids of others clubs could dream of.

Yeah, whilst Messi would still get decent wages he wouldn't get the daft wages he gets at Barcelona, that'd be manageable.

As for the transfer aspect, signing Haaland on a 5 year deal would be manageable, probably around £100m with wages lets say £200k p/w is £30.4m a year for 5 years, so doable. Of course the figures are just guesses, 200k might be too much as he's probably on half that at Dortmund.

€120k p/w rising to €160k p/w after 2 years was what was reported.
