I quite like there being 2 threads tbh. Adds to the drama of the occasion.

Like, this is such a big deal it needs two threads!

Well if we ditch Jesus, we are then much more desperate for a cf than we are for Messi.

I'm not sure who we can guarantee to replace Jesus & for how much.

I think we are going to have to look at replacing the goals that Sergio scores year in year out anyway. I would like to hope that the club has succession planning on this. Not sure Gabriel is that player, who knows he maybe? It seems that the negotiating game with Barca will run and run with different stories, many of which, will be false coming out. Today the message is we don't want to include Jesus and Barca don't want him.

Messi, if he signs, will probably add 30+ goals per year. I would love the team to be built for the next five years plus but having already signed a 22 year old and a 24 year old and having Phil in the picture, should mean we have at least some sort of continuity. It boils down to the club wanting to do anything they can to win the CL in the next couple of years. Signing Messi gives us a chance of making that reality. I don't buy into those who say he hasn't done that with Barca in recent years. They have big holes in their lineup. We are a different proposition with many top pieces already in place, we just need that extra factor that could stop situations like against Lyon happening again.

Either way what a time to be a City fan - in my opinion this happening is what we needed, it kind of gets the juices flowing again. 2 to 3 more years of Pep, Sergio, Kev and Messi is something I only dreamed of.

Still disappointed he didn't pat Milner on the head as we went past him! ;)

The most amazing single thing about that is that 99 players out of 100 would have nutmegged Milner with their right foot, regardless of which their stronger foot is! Messi's balance is so perfect is that he just shifts it, casually, through Milner's legs with the outside of his left foot. A far more difficult thing to do, which takes absolute precision at speed. For some reason it makes me think, not of a footballer, but of some of the things you see Ronnie O'Sullivan do…

I doubt this transfer has suddenly come about in the last 10 days.
These sort of transfers take many months to negotiate & especially when you're dealing with the likes of Messi,so I'm guessing this has been on the cards for some time.
With the season ending late it sounds like Barca are trying to pull a fast one on Messi's contract to get a transfer fee.

The goals from Messi, Jesus, Aguero, Sterling, will be the factor which separates us from the rest imo.

Take out 20 goals from the total, not so big a difference anymore, compared to what we already had. Add Messi's goals, to Aguero, Jesus, Sterling & it's hard to see how we can not win most games, even if we had Otamendi, Zinchenko & Garcia in the team.

You would think that extra 20-30 goals must be the straw that breaks the camel's back for most teams that are taking points from us currently.

But it does rely on Messi & Aguero staying fit, for it to be that significant.

I'm actually really looking forward to Torres & Foden next season too, which is going under the radar.

Of course, like every City fan, I want to see Messi in a City shirt. Just would be a lot happier if we can tie down a deal for a world class centre half first. Give Messi a solid base to work in. He will love playing with Kevin.

Spot on - 100% agree.
