Just think the wages would cause issues with the squad, he’s too old and getting well past it, I think it would create unnecessary disruption and a circus, into a squad that is pretty unassuming and quiet and I fear he could have the “Rodney Marsh effect”.

I would rather buy Haaland and a new LB... and give the current squad a pay rise to keep them happy.

The unassuming and quiet part, i see what/why you would think that. Although, nobody else outwith blues will, as all our players are already described as mega expensive mercenaries. And the likes of haaland or any other high profile player will be seen as the same, messi would hardly be different.

As for the rest, i fully trust the club either way. If they think his wages wont be an issue, nor his age, squad harmony, etc, then im all for it. And if theynthink any of those will be an issue, i highly doubt they'd go for it.

Messi is probably as unassuming and quiet as you can get considering the superstar he is. The wages are completely beside the point, if any of the squad are knocking on Peps office and asking for parity they want their head checking.

Also, for those at the back, Haaland and new LB does not get impacted by Messi.
Tbf De Bruyne would have every right to look for, if not parity, a healthy raise if Messi ends up on multiples of his wage. He's due an extension too.

Haaland should be the priority, Messi’s age is against him , obviously our board and owner must believe that commercially Messi is viable . We can certainly do without another drawn out saga concerning Messi .

I don't want to talk about new left backs, it's going to piss me off when we spend 3 times what we got for Angelino on someone no better.

Ach, take comfort in the fact it'll be balanced out by the fuck all we spent on zinchenko.

I want us to state early that we are out.

If we are being thorough, we already have, in pep repeatedly saying messi should finish his career at Barcelona.

Otherwise, won't happen. May or may not sign him, may or may not even try. But doubt we'll get drawn into responding to random speculation.

haven't been on here for a while. Nothing compares to what this thread was like , a couple of hours before the Messi interview to Goal . Constant refreshing

Great times. I read every damn post in here for like a month. I'd get home from work, put the kettle on and work through 300 pages of Aguero #10 jokes.

Blissful.

I didn't say it is worthless because of PSG but Messi won't sell same numbers of shirt he is selling at Barça wherever he goes (maybe in MLS). Therefore, their first assumption is already worthless. The rest is as equally useless.

I don't know if and how PSG are going to afford Messi, Neymar and Mbappé. As it stands, only Neymar is a sure bet if the increasing rumours about his soon-to-be-announced renawal are true. Maybe Mbappé won't be there in the next months and maybe Messi won't join PSG regardless of Mbappé situation.

The only thing i know is that PSG is set to save 35 M a year in transfer amortization if Neymar renews with the same salary. This shouldn't be even close to what Messi will ask from his suitors and PSG is already tanking hard due to Covid. Thus, it should be impossible to sign him but they seem keen on pursuing him. My guess is they only can offer him some Qatar Airways, Qatar National Bank or whatever other Qatari firms ambassador deal. Neymar is indeed partner with QNB and Qatar Airways.

On the other hand signing with QNB and QA, with Neymar already their partner, would lower the legitimacy and the value of those deals. They would need to find another prominent company. This is why i think from the start it is a no go. City has more to offer just in the structure of a deal and for his post-european career and everything.

That being said, they are certainly more creative and resourceful than i am. They will certainly find a way to offer him a nice proposal, otherwise it wouldn't make sense courting him.

Nail on the head. MLS. New York City?

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Both clubs have crunched the numbers. And they will have approached various sponsors to see if they are willing to fund a %age of Messi's wages. Also with an eye on FFP.

Just out of interest, do you know what the prize money for winning Ligue 1 is? Can't find it anywhere. I'm normally pretty good at finding stuff on the interweb.

Thanks.

Mendy is going to be difficult to shift, injury record, wage, form, etc etc. We'll be lucky to get him loaned out with all his wages paid.
Everton are hardly skint these days and won't sell us their best player for anything less than mental money.
Besides, we've got Zinchenko at a good age and hopefully Ake as cover soon, I'd rather we went for a younger left back as an understudy to mould into the role.
If we keep a good rolling age in the squad and maintain quality we can avoid lengthy overhauls and transitions. We should have learned from the Zab/Sagna and Clichy/Kolarov situation where they all went off a cliff in a short time span.

They've no TV deal at the minute so you won't find a current one.
