Is that a euphemism? As I don't think it's the time for that.

On a more serious note, she said she could taste them, just not very much. Seems like the sort of thing I wouldn't even consider, but she might be on edge a bit?
No, did the same with my mother last week after she found her tea rather bland, however she winced at the vinegar. When I had covid I couldn't taste anything - I was able to bite into a raw onion. Mingin.

Alright, in a bit of a predicament. Wife has just rang me to say she couldn't taste the sweets she just ate. She could taste her breakfast this morning and otherwise is fine, I am fine. Am I now supposed to leave work and not go back until she's had a test and got her results? That feels pretty extreme over (no offence) a woman having a panic over a packet of sour mix?
If you haven't got symptoms you don't need to leave work. But if she tests positive you then need to isolate.

Wow, were we really at 52K at one point?

Just all seems like a massive haze now.
We were actually at 68, 053 a few days later at the high point on 8 Jan.

Puts 12,000 under 6 weeks later into perspective, doesn't it?

But that was our 'merry LITTLE Christmas' for you as this is where that big surge came from.

I’ve had 3 goes at the Covid vaccine Calculator during the day . 5/4/21
6/4/21 & 8/4/21 . Must be a bad day for how many vaccines they have administered today ? Think the calculator works on average administrations

Can you provide a link to the evidence please?

See SAGE minutes:

17th Dec govt was told tier 3 was ineffective

Govt took legal action - to prevent schools closing (!)

22nd Dec strengthening of measures advised.

Most of country left in tier 2 or 3 over Christmas.

4th Jan Schools returned

5th January govt finally followed SAGE advice.

on 17th Dec, cases (7 day average) were 23,000

On 5th Jan, 56,000.

Keeping the country open over the period from being clearly advised their measures were ineffective to taking action - Christmas - caused cases to more than double.

I’ll just echo other thoughts... take the vaccine, you work with vulnerable people.

How would you feel if you gave covid to someone who died because you didn’t take the vaccine?

The vulnerable and those working with the vulnerable need to take it, my dad got one and he’s 51 and relatively healthy, but he’s on the testing site so they don’t want him giving it to people coming in to get tested who are negative.

The quicker people are vaccinated the better, even if a few non-vulnerable people slightly jump the queue it’s still good they are vaccinated.

You’re a good man for thinking it over and not wanting to take something that could benefit others first but you’re making the situation more risky for your customers/patients and you being vaccinated helps society generally.

Take it.
All day long

she is effectively a local councilor and represents 5 million people. Significantly less than live in the North West, Far too much to say for herself.

Aside from that just walked to Piccadilly from Ancoats - busier than i have seen it for months and a hint of spring in the air.
Sure it wasn’t spice?

Thanks, but I am actually looking for evidence that the Christmas Day get togethers caused the spike.

That is what Healdplace said happened. Not the days/weeks either side. That is what the reference to a Merry Little Christmas means.

The material you have offered actually undermines her argument if you think about it.

England hospital data:

Another good day with falls everywhere. The only blip North West ventilator numbers went up (all be it by just 1). Every other number in every other region down.

Patients 15, 633 - down 825 - last Thursday was 19, 983 (down 4350 in 7 days)

Ventilators 2316 - down 77 - last Thursday was 2780 (down 464 in 7 days)

Regionally: (v 7 days ago)

Patients:

East down 101 to 1679 (v 2262) London down 233 to 3059 (v 4079) Midlands down 45 to 3280 (v 4021)
NE/Yorks down 86 to 2305 (v 2817) South East down 233 to 2116 (v 2710) South West down 58 to 872 (v 1178)

And North West down 69 to 2322 (v 2916)

Ventilators:

East down 8 to 190 (v 221), London 43 to 706 (v 888), Midlands down 13 to 442 (v 530), NE/Yorks down 2 to 278 (v 308), South East down 10 to 295 (v 354), South West down 2 to 115 (v 153)

And North West up 1 to 290 (v 326)

As you see North West is going down in patients and slowly in ventilators but is possibly doing so less quickly than the rest.
