I compared Bravo with him too, and was correct.
You compared a goal keeper to an attacking midfielder......decades apart and with 2 vastly different quality of teams and managers
You don't perhaps think that Messi is just slightly above the standard of Mcmanaman?

Just so we are clear, please explain again why you believe singing Messi is a bad idea

Would you acknowledge from your experience that there could be potential pitfalls and hazards.Even if his football remains at the level you believe it to be.
Living in Manchester, The media goldfish bowl. Not being a bit to leave his house. Family issues. Negative coverage from the press, which you best know will follow.
I hope it all goes flawlessly, but unlike some who think "what possibly could go wrong" I can see certain possibilities that could happen.
I do think it is strange that he wants to find a new horizon at this stage in his career after being a homebird for so long.

Goldfish bowl?! How do your think Messi lived his whole career?

One thing IF Messi comes he won’t believe how relax it will be around Manchester. He probably think Damn I should of come years ago.

As I respect your input, could you give your considered response to 2 questions.

1, Do you think the CEO who would be responsible for such a major investment would in due diligence look at every aspect of the signing, particularly anything that could undermine the investment. If yes what would they be?

2, Do you believe there are no possible risks to the investment , both on and off the pitch.

If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, and looks like a duck...

There's a good chance it might be a duck.
I'm glad we agree that your post was about trying to control others.....unfortunately for you a forum is for airing different opinions

This is a thread in which opinions are becoming more and more entrenched: the more discussion there is the less opinions change. I have to admit that my opinion has not changed in the slightest since the summer.

My belief was that Messi would never leave Barcelona, but I had never really appreciated what a mess the club was becoming both on and off the field. Messi's transfer request brought this into real focus especially as he saw himself as the scapegoat for the club's on-field problems, culminating in the disastrous defeat by Bayern. Compared to this shambles City must remind Messi of the golden age at FC Barcelona - Ferran, Txiki and, above all, Pep working in a constructive spirit of co-operation with Khaldoon et al to create a football multi national of limitless potential. A club where several of his friends, including his best friend, thrived. All have waxed lyrical about life in Manchester, a city where revered players can nevertheless walk around without being stalked by intrusive fans. If Messi wants to leave Barcelona Manchester City is the place to go.

Should we sign him? You bet! Arguments that he is way over the hill or that he will be a disruptive influence are patent nonsense and the idea that he would only be here for a contribution to his pension pot spills over from nonsense into insulting rubbish. The idea that he would only come for the money is a disgrace, especially from supporters of Manchester City, a club which has refuted such claims about other club legends for over a decade. My reading of the state of affairs last summer was that Messi had had his fill of club intrigue and politics at Barcelona(as Pep had some years before) and of carrying the can for a club apparently doing nothing to halt a disastrous decline on the pitch. Messi wants to end his career playing and enjoying football at a club which really appreciates him. I doubt much has really changed since.

Looking for one big last pay day 'stepping down' to a club they don't really want to play for. That is the similarity.

He is not worth half of what is it is claimed Barca pay him and will be 34 before we can sign him. Makes no financial or footballing sense with 26 year old Bernardo and Mahrez 29 we need to be looking at someone under 23 for that horrific amount of money.

I go back to the 1st time last March, April when Messi started to make the noises he was wanting out

He then let his fans know he was ready for a change & he had done everything in his power to change things at Barca
He then told the World how bad his Barcalona was & the lies & constant shit from directors, President & Chairman then the shipping out of his mate Suarez & fellow players being asked to defer wages, bonuses
He could have left but never but he opened the door for this Summer giving the Barcalona fans 1 last season

I honestly believe its happening his wages being slapped allover the place & Bartomeu & Tebas spreading more shit about City even when City hadn't said one word
Things are best kept quite espeacialy with the run Pep is on the last thing he needs right now is an upset squad

Not sure when it will come out but something as big as this won't be kept stum till its announced
City can make an offer to Messi on 1st July when hes out of contract with Barcelona. That's what will happen if we want to sign him. Fingers crossed.
Imo the offer was done last March, deals like this dont get done 8n a months time, they give City numbers they work it out & make something happen either part wage, bonus, signing on fee or shares in CFG 1 thing for sure those numbers are already done

In 2019 Barcalona turned over record €990m they also said Messi alone makes them €330m
Yeah Messi is not the cause of their financial problems. Just like he will be cost neutral for City, at least. Their problem is the horrendous cost of the donkeys they surround him with. For us he will be the icing of the cake. Barca has no cake just the icing.

1. So you view us as a step down - this must be your view as you cant possibly know his view to know that he thinks this way.

2. How do you know he doesnt want to play for us. Please dont say because he has turned us down before becuase everyone is entitled to change their mind....if he comes to us its because he wants to play for us.

3. The commercial value of Messi (as had been explained and gone over continuously throughout the last 6 months or so) far outweighs the cost of him (wages as there will be no transfer fee)...not just in the short term but also in the long term....longer term for CFG it makes huge financial sense

4. As others have pointed out...his age isnt an issue- he has been relatively good with injuries, and Ronaldo, Ibra and various others are still banging them in and they are older. Vary 33 and still banging them in as well in.

Mahrez may well leave if it affects his game time (I have no issue with that personally).

I cant imagine Bernardo Silva complaining too much about playing alongside Messi for a couple of years and by the time Messi heads off into the sunset Bernardo will be in his prime

Are you American? If not you should be, they don’t do irony either.
Irony is usually only done verbally (or at least discernible verbally) or with body language/reading facial queues....try using smily faces if you are being ironic in the future......

;-)

Really not arsed about the off the field stuff. Couldn't care less how many units he shifts or how many short term fans we gain across the planet. All I care about is whether or not he's going to take us up a level as a team and I'm still not entirely convinced he should be the priority in that regard.

That being said, I understand the club is a business and it's Messi so I'm hardly going to be mad. I just hope it doesn't affect our other business.

My favourite of all of this Messi debate is the "He's not Premier League proven" or "Will he score in the Premier League" like the Premier League is like Serie A in the 90's filled with elite defenders and you have to have a proven track record in it to play in England. Even though Messi does, his record against the top 6 English sides in the Champions League is elite. Messi if he comes to us will perform, score goals and do as Pep asks him to do defensively. Messi loves Pep that much and it's obvious to anyone.

As for the Premier League proven debate that gets bandied around we should never have signed Yaya, David Silva, Kompany, Aguero, Fernandinho, Gundogan, Laporte, Dias etc or hell even De Bruyne who was classed as a Premier League flop when we signed him.

If Messi comes he provides a heap on the pitch, more off the pitch, and the rewards out weigh the risk. His age at 34 clearly we aren't getting the peak Messi but you can see now he's still the best player on the planet, and will create a nightmare for any side in Europe let alone England who plays against us.

Oh but let's hope he performs at the Euros to show us that.......
