Are we really "the best team in the world" right now?

Seen the goals they let in in a poorer league to ours? Yep they score shit loads but they let in a lot unlike us.
 
I don't go around with the 'best in the world right now' thought in my head. Saying we are means absolutely nothing - having the trophy (that you don't have to be the best in Europe to win) helps the argument when you're strong in every domestic comp like we are. How many games did Liverpool lose at various stages to take the trophy ? They broke the record for losses. At that time they were nowhere near the best. The media are just trying to create the narrative with leading questions to opposing coaches (best in the world ?) etc that anything but the quad is abject failure. Hope Pep tells the players to swerve questions about quads etc..

In terms of skill and ability, Bayern aren't better than us. In a shoot out with them with the strongest eleven on the pitch, it comes down to 1. LUCK and 2. MENTALITY - which includes experience of that high intensity situation.

The latter stages fall into the CL being no yardstick we've seen refs & VAR have a very big involvement against the dips, Spurs and Monaco as well to a degree.

Spurs and Monaco had one good run each, dippers had 2. We've had one in 2016 under MP. When people were talking about Barca and the rags being the best a decade ago, they were in the semi finals pretty much every year, beating top sides along the way.
 
Not so sure about that, we are the best in England, sure, but the best in the world? I still have my doubts, Bayern with 10 men from the 12th minute beat Stuttgart 4-0.

Suppose it all boils to to opinions and if they'd change if we had an even break it two on the way.

But as per previous I don't consider CL to be a Holy Grail. More teams would be happier playing Munich than us I think.
 
So much talk in the press about the depth of our squad. The fact is you don’t assemble a squad like ours without three things. Money, competing on multiple fronts for trophies and a genius manager. Elite players won’t put up with rotation otherwise. Yet all the focus is only on one of them.

It’s not as if any of this is new. United treble winning season had 4 elite strikers.
 
If we weren’t would they let us have a song that proclaims us the best team in the land and all the world?

Does everyone remember singing the song
City City The Best Team In The Land & The World ,when we were totally sh1t. We sang it with our hearts , proud & didn't care what opposing fans thought of us.
Lets be honest we never thought it would happen ? how far have we come to be on the top table , love this club through & through , we deserve the good times ,what a journey we have been on !
 
We are the most consistent team playing at the highest level , maybe a one off game against the German Rags would be interesting but to win 25 out of the last 26 games and against some very good opposition is exceptional , we are the most consistent at the moment and our defence is also second to none.
 
It's a good excuse for managers to trot out when they lose - it gives them room to say there was nothing more they could do. Actually, Everton could have gone into it with a more assertive attitude and as others have found when you do we can be beaten - and we will be beaten again.

To really be the best team in the world we need to win CL and we need to dominate it for a few years. Right now, we are potentially the best but until we overcome those mad moments that have been so costly in the last few years - we can not be considered in those terms.
 
We have to be positive, we are possibly in the best position ever to win the Champions League but not certain if this would make us best in the world, but we wouldn't be far off. I think we can match anyone in Europe including Bayern I have become more confident as the season has gone on, Pep has built a squad which has never been seen in English football before, and the way the players have taken to being rotated, a feeling of togetherness a never say die attitude, they play as one supporting one another, whether they play or not, from the bench, everything, we are in a great position, lets hope we can keep this going and then who knows, maybe we can become the Best in the World.

Win the CL and then that World Invitation tournament against the World equivalent of AFC Fylde and Gloucester City then we have a legitimate claim.
At the moment it’s just highly subjective.
Having said that in my heart we always will be.
