Are we really "the best team in the world" right now?

Yes, we are the best team in the world right now.

We're probably the best English side in history and there are good arguments for us being 'The greatest football team ever'.

We need to get over this deeply ingrained inferiority complex that's so abundant within our fanbase. We support the best team in the world, period.

The greatest ever?!

Winning the CL would prove it to the masses but really it’s a bit like saying if you win the FA Cup you are the best team in England. You might be but then again you might not be.

If you are the best team in Europe you are most certainly the best in the World. No disrespect to other regions but since the Bosman ruling Europe has all the best players. A European team has won 13 of the last 14 World Club Cups and if you look at the players that play for example Brazil or Argentina very few play their club football in South America. It’s difficult to say exactly how highly a non European side would rank but the best guess is probably around 40 and is Flamengo (note that they didn’t win the most recent Copa Libertadores)

To know the best actual team, counter intuitively, you need to look at performance rather than results and the most accurate period to look at is around a season and a half of performances.

At the end of the day it’s trophies that matter but most top clubs know that all you can do is play to your highest standard and keep your fingers crossed for trophies. Ancelloti isn’t the first to say these things about City and even Klopp said it a while ago. They aren’t just being nice they all have access to a lot of data that wasn’t available 10 years ago and helps them monitor all teams performances and sign better players.

It’s been known for a while now that City perform the best across the board. Doesn’t mean we will anything but it gives us the best chance.

Correct as far as right now goes.
Maybe re England all time but it’s very hard to compare teams from different eras.
Probably not re best ever anywhere... Pep’s Barca followed by Pep’s Bayern probably 1 and 2 but again all you can really do re different eras is compare how dominant they were in their own time as they don’t play each other unless they have a tardis.

Look at our form from December until now. 1 loss, the rest wins. Show me another team that has done that playing football against such a high quality of opposition?
I don't think those kind of accolades can be given out on the basis of 4 months of form, no matter how good that form is. Even if we win the quadruple this season that wouldn't seal it either. To be literally the best team ever is something that can only be established over a long period of success and, in my opinion, only in retrospect.

First of all I hate to say my team is the best in the world. No probs singing it, but to put that label on my club is simply not my kinda thinking. Rather prefer to stay humble and smile proudly when we break another record or win silverware.

It’s easier to say best team in England. Yes I think we are. We have been over the last decade and have every stat in our favour to show it. So no problems there, but even then I try and stay humble.

Maybe I don’t wanna behave like a rag or dipper who feel the urge to shout it, even if they have to revert to the distant past.

Now ... if you all excuse me.
I’m off to sing we are the best team in the land and all of the world ...

I don’t volunteer it but if asked I’ll say who I think, which will probably just send me to 538...just happens to be us at the moment.

If people want to think it’s Bayern I can see that. I can’t see many other teams having a good enough argument though. At the end of the day people believe what they want anyway particularly when it’s something as partisan as football.

In the abstracted, week by week, quality on paper sense, yes. I don't think Bayern or PSG, judging on league performances, have much of a say, and the Spanish and Italian teams are all in various states of disrepair on and off the pitch. We know English football well enough. But, and it's a big but, the best team in the world doesn't always win the CL, where the great historical teams tend to.

I don't know a single City fan with any kind of inferiority complex let alone one that's "deeply ingrained". What a load of bollocks. Equally most City fans I know don't go in for the sky/media-led arse licking "world class" or "best in the world" bollocks that is commonly associated with plastic twats with a shallow, deeply ingrained lack of self-worth - hence attaching themselves to the rags in the hope of some kind of compensating reflected glory. Tossers.

To sum up we almost certainly are but nobody will care looking back at us if we don’t turn that superiority into a CL win at some point.

Here‘s an example...how many people think Brazil 1970 was the best National side ever? Lots. However the 1982 Brazil team were better I think but never get mentioned because they went out to a lucky Italy 3-2.

The same is true for Holland 1974. Beaten by the pragmatic Germans. It is always the Victors who write the history.

Agree completely. And still can't get over that last minute goal being chalked off for offside. We would have won it against Liverpool imo. We were the best team that season too, it could have been a quadruple.
