City & FFP | 2020/21 Accounts released | Revenues of £569.8m, £2.4m profit (p 2395)

In the MLB, if you sign a player I believe you have to deposit the full contract value in an escrow account.
I don't think you do, in fact, they actively put deferments in to avoid paying people until decades later. Sometimes player are still getting paid 30 years after they retire because of it (look up Bobby Bonilla day if you are interested in the most extreme/funny example) But all contracts are guaranteed so there is no worry over the money.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it was those clubs and some of the other so-called “old guard” who have pushed for this due to taking a huge financial hit because of the pandemic and FFP is hindering their chances of strengthening their squads in the summer.

It would be hilarious if that was the case and then City released a statement naming and shaming all those clubs and saying that we’re not fussed either way but we’re more than happy with the FFP regs as they stand because they’ve done their job in helping cement our place at the top table as a well run debt-free footballing powerhouse, and as a club we’re unsure why previous advocates of FFP now want the rules ripped up. The look of confusion on the faces of mouth-foaming United and Liverpool fans as they attempt to process that information will be a sight to behold.
Oh, yes. Love it.

Do it like in France. Regulatory body checks if the owners (or the club itself) cover the expense of the club each season. If not, you aren't allowed to join the competition.

Tebas is probably one of those who have been lobbying for his Real and Barça sweethearts. He must be happy they are going to be able to pull some money out of somewhere to compete.
I doubt it mate barca and Madrid are fucked

Wh
No, I'm saying owners should be allowed to invest according to their means. We should be looking to block owners like Milan Mandaric and the Glazers from the sport, not owners like Jack Walker, Roman Abramovich or Sheikh Mansour. We should be trying to make sure as much of the money generated by the sport as possible stays with those who add value to the sport - players, coaches and other staff, rather than being creamed off by people who've never given one minute of time or penny of wealth to it, like the Glazers and agents like Raoila and Mendes. A salary cap and wages cap gives more money to the former, focusing on salary and wages instead of agents themselves allows the latter to keep sucking blood from the sport.

If clubs need to be protected - stop them from taking on debt.
If I've got €100m to burn and I decide to buy Drogheda United and let them run at a €5m loss using that money (invested as shares) for the next 20 years they're in no financial danger.
If I decide to borrow €100m from BOI in the clubs name and use it to pay myself dividends and prop up my other failing businesses, they are.
If I lend them the €100m instead of buying shares with it and then decide I want it back, they're fucked.
If I borrow it in the clubs name and invest it in stadium, training and youth infrastructure that brings in €100m in revenue over it's lifetime and turns them into a stronger club, they've done well out of it.
What, surely no owners load a club with debt and then pay themselves dividends and as for propping up their other businesses that would be scandalous, wouldn't it?!

Drogheda are in financial danger in year 21 though. They will still have the same expenses as they did in the previous years but nobody to cover it. The exact same as Mandaric at Portsmouth or Mansour at City. I bet if you watch the first interview after the takeover at both clubs they will both be saying something similar. In fact Google any takeover and they are all whispering sweet nothings. Man City is one of the very few where the buyer was true to his word.
And has gone about smartly diversifying the shareholders register, at least at CFG level.

Please!

Spare a thought for Senior Teabag. He has been squeezed relentlessly this year.

Both of are approaching from the angle that he's a smart guy with the best of intentions. Most owners in football are the opposite.

The only reason FFP will be relaxed is so the likes of Madrid can take the Mbappe's of this world on the never never. And not fall foul of the rules they strangled everyone else with.

So no regulation because we happen to be rich at the moment.

Shortsighted enough. Football as an industry needs regulation, badly. Its crooked and corrupt, root and branch. Head to toe.

But that's ok, City have a few Bob
Regulation for a level playing field may be ok, regulation made by the few to benefit the few is never ok.

There's the Red Bull teams, plus the Pozzo family own Udinese and Watford. There's probably other examples too.
Thanks. Forgot about the Red Bull group. It is probably better for us that we are not the only one with multiple clubs in one portfolio. Perhaps this is the way football will now go.

Argue with yourself all your want pal.

We are part of a football group. The flagship. If and when the money goes it will need unravelling. Are you deluded enough to think the money is here forever?
Good that you use the word deluded, if and when the owners sell, I am guessing that because we are such a well run club with no debt issues, with a period of success of more than a decade and growing by the season, you never know some other owner might actually want to buy that successful club and that’s how successful well run businesses continue.

I know this may be a shock for you, other owners would want our successful ‘shit show’, but you go back to your well thought out vision of when it all goes tits up.

What would they be buying? All the clubs? Melbourne, Mumbai, New York?

Try not to be so sensitive. When that needs unraveling it will be an unadulterated shit show
