Mad to think it's been five years since we appointed Pep.

Time flies when you're having fun.

True story time. There's a lad who goes home and away every week ( or did pre pandemic ). I'm guessing him and Russ are of a similar age and at the very least friendly. Anyway that lad was absolutely adamant that Pep was leaving last summer. I remember him spending ages telling me that his top source at the club is one of a handful of people outside of Pep and Txiki that would know. I absolutely want to believe he wasn't WUM'ing because what mileage really is there in something like that when you're approaching 50 and have a real life. Obviously his top source was talking top bollocks though.

On the flip side, I've spoken to at least two football writers who have been told by City "Haaland is the club's priority this summer". Those journalists have also spoken to Alfie and been told City want Erling. So in this instance I think that a single source, no matter how top, doesn't trump Erling's dad or City's press office.

The big question is wether young Erling fancies it here I suppose. Add to that Nuno Mendes and maybe another player and we’d be significantly decreasing our average age.

Haha! I was referring to the playing side. Pep certainly ticks all the piss boiling boxes.

I just want Haaland.

He's an animal and the romance of his city connection is enough for me.

Plus, Foden, Torres, Haaland. Unbelievable scenes.

Think the suggestion was it could well be the same source and while it may be a well placed one it's been wrong before and may be again. That was my take anyway.
 
Didn’t watch the match last night, how did Nuno Mendes look? Is he the answer? Really hope so! I’d be more than happy to go again with what we’ve got at LB and let Mendes have another year in Portugal on loan, playing every week. The only exception to that would be if we find an unexpected taker for Mendy, then by all means bring Mendes into the squad straight away.

He can challenge Mendy and Zinchenko right now IMO

Of course, by the same token even the sources that we like to think are ultra reliable have been wrong on many occasions over the years.
The only guarantee when it comes to transfers is there’s no guarantees.. :-)

He was top notch. Easily good enough for us even at 18.

Nice. At his age, does he not need to be registered as part of the squad? If he doesn’t then yeah, we can use him immediately without needing a buyer for Mendy. It’d be a good solution to wanting to improve LB whilst also recognising we need to shift Mendy to make space.

No under 21s don’t need to be registered. In the Champions League he would have to though

CL squad he has to, PL no. So we need to bin Mendy.

Seems reasonable imo. Mendy is supposedly good for morale around the dressing room so you can see why he’d stay
