human beings are dopamine junkies and selfish, so unsurprising, the students round me have been like this for the past month, just don't give a shit.

On the flip side, we now get to see the true effect of the vaccines and whether they hold up and prevent another escalation. Which, for someone unvaccinated, isn't a bad test case to observe.

yep the vaccines will be tested to the full this summer. must be 500 young people on the new islington canal
even some lads are in the canal ? full party going on drinks happy gas the lot its crazy

Big drop in England hospital deaths today - on what is usually first catch up day after weekend

Just 40 - with 8 from North West

Last week was 98 with 19 NW.

A wk to wk fall of 60%!
That is great news. Fingers crossed the lockdown easing dates tied into the mass vaccination programme will enable us to return to some normality without hospital admissions and this increasing much.

seems the entire university is in my local park again today. A peculiar side effect of the pandemic seems to be girls dropping their knickers in public and peeing in front of everyone. The world is more beautiful when we're not around.

4040 cases

56 all settings deaths

Latest testing numbers only up to 28 March

26 Mar 698, 086 Pillar 1 & 2

27 Mar 451, 118 Pillar 1 & 2

28 Mar 1, 622 . 771 Pillar 1 &2

Last 4 day cases :- 4715 - 3862 - 4654 - 4040

The tests have little relation to the cases any more. Unless someone can make any sense out of the above.
Wow. A 50% drop in deaths compared to last Tuesday! It was 112 then and 5095 cases

Who has made more money , kept their income streams during the pandemic and who has lost money as a result of lockdowns?

Made/Kept - Public servants , Large and Medium Corporations providing essential goods and services or at least those deemed as essential by bureaucrats , IT's , Politicians , First Responders.

Lost - Small business owners , many employees of same , tourism, arts , entertainment , sole traders.

Feel free to add and or subtract but their is a direction of money flow tied to this IMO that needs a debate be it deliberate or unintentional of consequence.

have to admit, most i know are much better off - loads working from home, saving on London travel commute, no holidays and pay all the same.

Got to add to my earlier post of today how proud I am of this country when it comes to the vaccination process. The whole thing was smooth, streamlined and actually quite fun! Think I saw some signs saying "route to escape" or suchlike (made me smile) and others saying "315 more steps to vaccination" and then another in just double figures 5 minutes later.
Bloody brilliant all of it. The staff and volunteers (especially the volunteers) should be very proud of themselves.

It probably will mate. With today’s figures in, the average over the last 7 days is 55
Good to the numbers continuing to move in the right direction. Hopefully, the serious cases will continue to fall.

As well as the most important things like reduced hospitalisations, we can be confident now that the relaxations on April 12th will happen and a few more weeks of progress and May openings will be guaranteed to happen too, fingers crossed.

Sergio deserved a big send off from the lucky 10k

How do we feel Sweden with no hard lockdowns but with border lockdowns as such have faired compared to the likes of UK , France , Spain , Italy , Hungary , Belgium to date.

I note that their deaths per millions is lower than that of the countries mentioned above.

I read an interesting report on their approach and noted that they apparently had no structure in place to combat outside PPE and social norms and basic hygiene the regular contact between the generally younger involved in nursing home , day care and home care services and their elderly residents.

over 75 per cent the deaths recorded to date have come from these settings.

Their death rates to covid or at least attributed to covid don't compare that well to their near neighbours but excess deaths do.

An interesting read

North West and GM did not have great days today but managed - just - to stay ahead of Yorkshire - which fell a lot - as did most regions.

North West fell by the smallest - just 58 to 572 . Though this is one of the lowest totals in months.

And Greater Manchester fell by just 10 of those (so its % of NW will rise again).

Yorkshire down 183 at 598. So only 26 ahead of North West.

Other falls:

North East to 162 - lowest normal score here in months

East MIdlands from 480 to 343

West Midlands from 472 to 389

South East from 438 to 355

South West from 208 to 160 - a new England region low this year.

East from 337 to 280

And London bucked the trend and went UP - from 394 to 468.

Really the gap between all the regions - which in January spanned between 2000 and 11, 000 from low to high region numbers - is now between about 200 and 600.

Quite a difference!

Badly I’d guess when compared to comparable countries , hence why the king apologised and the prime minister agreed.

Greater Manchester scored 342 today - down just 10 from 352 yesterday.

But down 44 from 386 last Tuesday,385 the Tuesday before and 449 the Tuesday before than.

So going in the right direction slowly.

Everyone in GM today was between top scorer and now clear GM leader - Bury - on just 13 cases (the place the MEN told us was in big trouble and the epicentre of the North West a week or two ago but now leading on lowest weekly case numbers over Trafford).

And Manchester with the high of 67.

All the other boroughs between Rochdale on 23 and Bolton on 43.

Most are down week to week - Wigan by 24 and Tameside by 13 the most.

A few up week to week but by just 1 or 2 so minimum impact on Pop Score if any.

Trafford was up again too and lost another 1 in the overall Pop race on Stockport - now several days of Stockport ahead on that measure surprisingly. And will still be behind Stockport in the weekly Pop table it has conceded with its bad run over the past week.

Though Stockport was up too (by just 2) week to week today too on 32.

Bolton had the biggest uptick unfortunately - from 28 to 43 week to week. Yet even that 43 is the second lowest number in the past week here so they too are heading in the right direction.
