Its the truth. There is no way we can offer him another deal going forwards and we do have better suited squad players. A true legend but got just like Aguero got to say goodbye at somepoint.

It’s not time to say goodbye to Fernandinho yet. He’s still a top class player and hasn’t show any signs of regression.

He is finishing the season strongly but we do have cover in both Centre Back and Midfield positions and we do have a few EDS players knocking at the door.

Maybe Fernandinho could manage another couple of years playing in Italy or Spain?

I would still offer him another season with City. He may decide to pursue other options to get more game time.

No matter what, he will remain a City legend.

Age is against Ferny
It is, but did you watch him tonight ? He reads the game incredibly, that tackle he put in on Maddison was superb, and I liked how he welcomed him to the game, he was imperious tonight, yes the lame pundits give KdB MoTM for a couple of excellent passes (ignoring the amount of times he gave the ball away).

He was "the boss" tonight, and they are the third best in this league.

Brilliant player, keep him as a player coach, he can teach a lot to others, and still play.

David Silva looked like he could of still been useful player but bowed out at the right time. The team doesn't look weaker without his influence.

I suppose despite the rumours that he's leaving it could still be the case that it's all up in the air still.

We now know with Aguero that if he's leaving the club would announce it. So the fact that the club haven't announced it yet leaves it all in the balance.

He was magnificent again, his reading of the game especially defensively, when to tackle and also when to bring an opponent down before they get an advantage is priceless. That experience is going to be hard to replace.
If we have an understudy as backup, Dhino needs to be there as a mentor. He still has a role to play. One more year Dhino

Agreed, and I think the club want him to stay, they might also want Aguero to stay, but he maybe wants assurances he'll play (if fit).

Rodri, alongside him today, got a masterclass in how to do it. After he was booked, he went to bring someone down, but pulled out last minute because he knew he couldn't, but the player (can't remember who) gave the ball away under the pressure.

With Aguero the rumours were the club were happy to keep him but in a much reduced capacity. His fitness issues are just too much for the club to believe he's reliable and so they had to make that offer and inform him that they'd be seeking out a long term replacement whether he stays or goes. And Aguero wasn't interested in that offer.

Fernandinho seems different to me, because the only major issue is that he can't be relied upon to play twice a week over a season. But he's so ultra-fit that as long as his minutes are managed he'll almost always give you a strong 90 minutes in the way that he does. I strongly suspect Fernandinho's future is tied in with what our transfer targets will be, as due to his expiring contract he's easier to let go, but it'd only happen if there's a reason to if you catch my drift.

It may be connected to the fact we have another offer for him, I also think he's invaluable in the dressing room.

We'll soon find out, but I think he'll be here next season in some capacity, and available to play.

I'm starting to believe he is more than capable of another year here and unless we get someone exceptional through the door I say we give him a new deal.

It surprises me a bit how many comments reference both Fernandinho and Sergio when considering whether the former gets a new contract. For me they are very different. Sergio unfortunately has had quite a lot of muscle injuries and a long term one recently, and does not look the same player sadly. Fernandinho hasn’t suffered many injuries and is still playing at a very high level. I always feel more confident when he is in the team and would absolutely ask him to stay.

Fernandinho absolutely deserves at least another year, he hasn't dropped off significantly and what he brings to the younger players with his leadership cannot be overstated.

Another season is selling the great man short. He is capable of playing another two or three with us - at least.

Should be extended 100%. We're not going to find anyone else like him because that player doesn't exist.
Not sure about two or three; he'll be 38 in 3 seasons' time. But he should certainly get another season. Even if he doesn't play most of the time, and he won't, you can imagine his influence on the dressing room.

A very good back-up/rotation option for Rodri. I hope he gets another season with us but I guess it also depends if he feels his body is up to the rigours of another PL season or whether he'd prefer to find a bit of an easier league (physically) where he could go on for another couple of years.

He still looks like one of the fittest players at the club. If you were new to football and didn’t know how old any players were, you’d watch Fernandinho and think he was late 20s.

On his day he’s still the best defensive mid in the world.
