There’s a lot of talk building about this kid Lavia in the EDS, who plays DM and looks to be a special talent.

He’s still only 17, so clearly not ready yet, but if we buy another DM this summer the kid will surely leave as there’s no path to the first team for him.

Another year of Ferna could be ideal to give the kid the chance to mature and see whether he’s the real deal before bringing another in.

On the strength of his performances this season, Ferna definitely looks like he’s got another year in him.

I don't think Zab is quite in Fern's 'league' tbh, despite being a great man who will always be adored by us.

Prerequisite has to be keeping a world class level for a sustained period of time (I'd say five seasons minimum). I don't think Zab quite achieved that, whereas the others including Fernandinho were or still are amongst the best in their respective positions over at least that time period whilst playing for us.

Atm I think Fern is probably in the same tier as KDB and Yaya, which is one below the Kun Merl and Vinnie triumvirate.
Yaya never put 5 seasons of world-class performances in for us if that is how you are going to judge Zaba.

Not for me.

Cracking player Zaba and a cult hero, but he wasn’t up there with those six. There are other better players than Zaba not in that six.
What do you want from a right back?

50 goals 75 assists?

Or

the heart and fight to improve yourself immeasurably to then become the worlds best right back for a 2 season spell and the best right back in the prem for at least 5 seasons, whilst all the time bonding with your teams' fans and area.

Zabaleta pisses all over Yaya when it comes to legend status, it isn't even close.

Zaba bleeds blue and has never caused any controversy unlike Yaya. Zaba is my favourite ever City player, very definition of a legend. Having a slight Manchester accent after not really speaking any English when he first arrived sums the man up.

A 30ft bronze statue wouldn't be big enough :)

People were saying they were close to tears when Sergio announced he was leaving this week, which is understandable. I took it well and thought it was for the best. But when Zaba was leaving, I had a big fuck off lump in my throat. I love players that run their socks off all game and put their bodies through hell. Seeing Zaba wrapped in bandages every other game made me love the guy even more. If the club you support are paying these guys £100k p/w, you want to see that level of commitment. It’s why I’ve always supported Jesus over the past few months, never stops fighting.

When we have so many Portuguese-speaking players, I think it’s a good thing to have someone like Fernandinho around. As well as playing, he can act as a role model to the younger players and a bridge to the management.

I think that's the problem. He could negotiate a nice contract in Italy, 2 years with a 1 year option, in a league that will allow him to get plenty of game time with a CL club and continue to perform at his best. He's definitely worth another season with us but it would be as Club Captain, back up to Rodri and mentor to the young lads followed, hopefully, by a couple of seasons in the MLS at NYC. The question is what option does he prefer.

I think it’s the right time for him to go, like Konpany Silva Sergio leaving at the right time

Think he is certainly good enough to get a new contract I think the club a waying up the opitions of keeping him for another year and missing out or zakaria or the option on luiz. It really is a tough one as it should honestly be a no brainer but age doesn't seem to effect him how many 35 year olds can play at his level, in his position, in our league it's crazy.

I'm quite sure he has during his eight with us. Easily in fact.
I don't think so, you can scrub the last two right off for a start and then we can objectively describe what is a world class season.
Then, when we compromise on 4, I will reintroduce the fact he was a mouthy **** that slagged off the manager and club owners and then I will go back to thinking Zaba is more deserving of a statue than YaYa Toure.

I'm judging this on footballing contribution and performance alone. Though I don't believe Yaya quite deserves a statue, I think it's undeniable that he's been critical to our rise.

I love Zaba and he's an absolute champion, zero doubt about that, but you don't make statues based on a guy being a good bloke.
