“Everyone will be able to take a free rapid coronavirus test twice a week from the 9th April. Reclaiming our lost freedoms & getting back to normal hinges on us all getting tested regularly.” Matt Hancock, 5th April.
So we can only get our freedoms if we all get tested regularly?
I thought it was if the NHS wasn’t overwhelmed or if we all wore masks, or hospitalisations and deaths fell, or the vulnerable got vaccinated? Or is it if we agreed to vaccine passports?

Is it just a few more weeks, a few more months or a couple of years?I’m sure it’s all obvious to some of you but I'm losing track....

Talk that the AZ jab may be suspended in under 30s as soon as tomorrow by the MHRA

If that happens, May 17th and June 21th will be an absolute pipedream.

There are not enough vaccines on stream yet to take the slack from that up and the added damage to a vaccine with an already poor reputation, will likely be irreversible.
Never fear. Johnson's here.

Will a few days suspension have much effect?

I think there are about 25M under 30s, so there is still 9M over 30s to be done (assuming total pop of UK is 65M) A suspension now has no immediate effect on the vaccination schedule, and the other vaccines will be available in due course.

Christ you're insufferable.

Clearly, available and rapid testing is required to help identify outbreaks and shut them down asap. Do you want your freedoms or not? Do you have a better plan to achieve post-pandemic utopia?

Why the doom and gloom ? Didn’t he announce we’re all systems go for the current roadmap out of lockdown ?
which seemed unrealistic a couple months ago.
And you wrote that before going 4th !

Yes, I'm totally bewildered by all the negativity on here and across the media. This road map seems to be progressing smoothly and although vaccination has slowed a bit we'll still have the most vulnerable jabbed.

Shops, barbers and pubs (outside) open next week, indoor hospitality 5 weeks later if the next step works OK, and a fair chance of getting live music by the Autumn. Couldn't care less about papers/jabs/passports to be honest.

Works for me, but I'm obviously missing something.

Hang on a minute! 21st June is when all restrictions are supposed to be lifted. On the other hand we are being briefed about possible Covid passports etc and possible medium term use of masks and social distancing. What’s going on?
Boris knows fuck all as usual and trying to cover all bases.

It looks like he's banking on self testing and vaccinations to ensure there isn't another lockdown.

Surely he can't fuck this up?

Oh wait it's Boris...

why the ban? Clotting? Seems to have been a very gloomy day.

So from what the daily mail are running 30 people out of 18.1 million which have been vaccinated with Astrazenica developed a blood clot of which 7 have died.

I'm no mathematician but are they saying people under 30 have a higher chance of dying from the vaccine than covid itself?

Importance diminishing and research grants disappearing. Just remember, you’re not allowed to say such things. Welcome to the world of being anti-society and a Covid denier........

All joking aside though, given that press conference, there must be another agenda in play here. Whitty confirms Covid is here in perpetuity, the vaccine roll out and success unimagined a few months ago, all the data pointing to great success and yet we will need social distancing and masks until at least next year? Bypassing parliament for vaccine passports?
Remember 3 weeks to flatten the curve. Then temporary tiers. Then no schools as they put up the R number by at least 0.7. A second lockdown to save Christmas, Christmas cancelled to prevent another lockdown, a third lockdown to save Easter with a promise of normality is the vaccine was a success. Data not dates, but only if the data is worse, it’s dates not data if that’s not the case. Restrictions lifted in June provided no new bad data. There is no new bad data and yet it’s all change yet again. That’s without everyone taking 2 Covid test a week. Assuming a false positive rate of only 0.1% and 80 million tests a week, that’s a false posited number of 80000 a week or 11200 a day. Bearing in mind that the FP rate is reckoned to be 4 times that at 0.4%, it can never end.
Good job he’s passing legislation to ban protests or people might start getting a tad hacked off. The goalposts haven’t just been moved but they are on a different continent and moving further away every week....
Sorry but one idiotic modelling survey whose predicted outcomes are bollox does not change my mind as to science.
Modelling is only science if the inputs are not bollox and in this case the outcomes look wrong on just about every level (see herd immunity) so the inputs are clearly crap...
The only way it works is with a variant that bypasses the vaccine and they explicitly rule that out. So it's bollox.

Here in perpetuity as in it will be very difficult to wipe out but that doesn't mean we will be permanently in lockdown. Whitty was saying that the vaccines will de-risk it.

no but the reports that suggest a restriction is on the way are suggesting that they may redirect younger people to to other vaccines where the risk of these clots are lower. They need to explain this very clearly. Quantify the cases, and the risks.

So much for getting out of jail
We are all still on parole and wearing ankle tags for the foreseeable.

It's beginning to reach a tipping point where people say fuck it, as every promise keeps getting broken and backtracked on. A few weeks that then stretched into months to flatten the curve. When we get the vulnerable vaccinated and the NHS can cope is now going to when we get everyone vaccinated. That was the magic bullet, now it's no, we have to still wear masks and keep our distance. Now it's everybody has to home test twice a week or the threat is we stay locked down. Then vaccine passports and more and more draconian legislation being brought in. Everybody has lost a year of their lives in our home imprisonment and life is short enough as it is. Most of all of this was predicted by people called conspiracy theorists but what they say is gaining more credence as the months and backtracking drag on.

The vulnerable and over half the population are vaccinated. The numbers have dropped dramatically in spite of schools being back. We have to start living again. Those who don't want to stay at home, nobody is forcing anyone to go to a pub, a football game, or on holiday. The virus is out of the bottle and it isn't going back in. We have to live with the risk or live a joyless restricted life.

Its all so depressing out there mate
It really isn’t. It has been for a long time, but now we are finally seeing the end of the road. It might not be as close as we thought, but it’s definitely much closer than this time last year. Even January, 6 weeks ago, things were looking terrible. Now figures are good. Kids are in school and we are monitoring figures whilst partially reopening more and more each month.

Hold on a sec - what have I missed? Have they said we “have to have 2 tests per week?” No. Have they scrapped all the future dates in the roadmap? No. Have they stuck us in lockdown for another 6 months? No.

Granted I didn’t see the presser yesterday but it sounds to me that a load of people are getting their knickers in a twist because someone said masks and social distancing “may” still be needed for a while longer. Errrr, and that’s it

I think a lot of the moaners & groaners out there in the country are that desperate for at least one of a gym to open, football to allow crowds, cinema/theatres to let customers in, a week in the sun, even vaccines to fail, whatever vested interest or agenda they roll with... the list is endless & they'd sell their granny to get what they wanted.

Just need to use common sense now internally. The biggest problem is everyone has an angle, airlines aren't going to agree to the timetable as it's all about £££ same with pubs, same with everything, again the list goes on & on.

Hopefully this is why we have a Government (I didn't vote for them) although a cross party committee would have been my choice for dealing with this to make level unbiased choices. I know.

A few months ago I posted that we'd be better off slowly slowly and thinking about getting back to normality steadily walking up a set of stairs in one go rather than trying it like someone pissed, up three, stagger back 2.

I don't think as a whole the country has done particularly well this last 12 months, across all levels of society elected & public not as bad as some areas though, amongst others I've seen the Dutch having demos which became riots.

My concern within the UK is the explosion of dicks when we open up, that Stockport video, the mess in parks, it'll be like a bad NYE night for months along with all the roads jammed with people going to the seaside/beauty spots that they spend all day travelling to and can't enjoy anyway as they'll be heaving.

Anyway if this post isn't to anyone's liking the chip in my arm from my first vaccination has controlled me and made me do it. ;)
