The only upside I can see is that fans of the clubs who want to join in the super league may well turn to watch lower league/ non league football instead which will benefit them..I ll be going to Bury AFC

I'm not as against this as everybody else. I'm not entirely convinced by it but I don't think it's a disgusting outrage either.

Firstly let's get real for a moment. Football has been broken since the 1990s. People talk like we're in the 1960s where all the clubs could have a similar chance of competition. We aren't and we haven't been for decades. A Leicester could happen once but the idea that you can build a sustainable challenger to the league using your academy, good management and transfer guile is farcical. United saw to that many years ago - to compete you need a billionaire to invest in you. That's the broken part, by the way. That you need that to begin with. The English game has been financially lopsided and killed competition 20 years ago.

So the competitive morality out of the way, we look at other things such as what will happen to poor Stoke and Burnley? Nothing, presumably. More to the point, I give as much of a fuck for their future as they did for us when we were going bankrupt. My emotions are tied to Man City and whats best for them.

The Super League is what's best for City. As a founding member, we're now one of the big boys forever. If there's a revolution in the UAE tomorrow and Shiekh Mansour/his family is deposed and he's forced to sell the club then its no problem. We're in the tent pissing out, permanently. The fact that we get to fuck UEFA on the way past is icing on the cake.

My only actual concern here is for the fans. It sounds like potentially 18 European away games to the final and you just know that the Final is more likely to be in Beijing than Birmingham. Affordability is going to be a significant issue and it's the only thing that's making me doubt it. If the club did something like a European equivalent of subsidised coaches then I'd be happier with it.

But yeah. It guarantees our post UAE future, it establishes us as one of the world's biggest clubs, it fucks UEFA, it will be the competition all the biggest players want to play in, it will earn us fucking bank, what's not to like?
there is absolutely a cold hard slap of truth in this post, progression-status-inevitability, but it's probably the wake up call i needed, so i'll hang up me scarf and knock it ont head.

I'm really indifferent to this at the moment until everything comes out. I do find it very hypocritical of Sky, BT and former players talking about greed and greed during a pandemic.

The same Sky and BT that put games on Pay Per View in a pandemic.

I'm sure all of the ex players that do the really difficult job of mostly slinging out clichés have donated money to these fans they suddenly have so much simpathy for. The same players that probably demanded huge pay rises that meant ticket prices had to be increased above inflation.

Rio Ferdinand was on BT talking about greed. He must have forgotten the time he was banned for missing a drugs test. Then paid in full by the rags for the 8 Months he was banned for. Then went and banged down baconfaces door to demand a pay rise when his suspension was up.

Yeah this is all about greed and Sky, BT and these ex players that are now pundits are just p'd off because they're not going to be a part of it. DAZN supposedly has the rights and the ex players missed out on even bigger wages.

Until of course they can themselves make money off it themselves and they will join in.

I just cant believe any club let alone City are prepared to throw everything away, all the tradition, history, excitement and challenges for a few extra quid. What about the fans, clearly we dont mean anything anymore to the owners.

I dont want to watch a closed shop competion run on the back of a sham domestic league. Wheres the pleasure in that.

I would feel embarrassed watching City play another team outside this cartel, knowing that however badly we play, however much we lose by, we will still qualify for this super league and the other club wont.

If this happens, and im preying it wont, that's the end of it for me as a match going fan im afraid, its just not what im about or into as a person, I feel pretty low at present.

Basically a few billionaires have decided they want to remove competition, reap in all the revenue and stop all the other clubs and fans potentially having any success by skewing the market so heavily in their favour. We were that club in 2008.

Not only will we destroy our own legacy but were taking hope and aspiration away from other clubs. If we were allowed to stay in the Prem, what would be the point for the other clubs facing us, when we have an additional 425 million pound war chest to strengthen our squads. What would be the point in other clubs investing, improving themselves knowing what ever they did they would hit a ceiling and for fans knowing finishing 7th will be as good as it gets.

For me, regardless of whether it goes ahead, we know, if deep down we didn’t really know, where our owners stand now. And the most painful aspect this is only the first stage, once this lge is established these people, who only see money, will be trying to squeeze things even more, and in effect these, money obsessed individuals, are the de-facto regulatory body of the game. Next step matches played abroad, at time zones to suit other audiences. Our club has been stolen.

Will the original Champions league format still exist ? Or is this replacing it ?

Will there be relegation and promotion for these league. Ie: could Burnley ever reach this league if they finished 3rd in the prem next year or so ?

surely. Fans won’t bother. They can’t have a packed Stadium for PL say for Man City v Everton , and then less than half a stadium for Man City v Madrid.

I can understand this, somewhat.

Most of us have supported City since we were kids off the backs of our parents doing the same and their parents the same. City is our club.

It's not that we're walking away from City, but City seems to be walking away from us. The fans don't matter any more, our voice is silent, our presence unnecessary, our support replacable. We aren't the working class Manchester "team of the people" anymore, just the rags or dippers in Blue. Our identity, history, passion and morality are all being sold off here, so can any of us honestly say this is the club we support and love?
I've been against the City Football Group concept from the start as ultimately it was always going to end here. Globalisation is the death of local support. It's disgusting and unethical.

I've been saying it for a while about the direction the club was taking, it gives me no pleasure but the club I loved, and I did love it, passionately is now dead

PSG chairman is on the UEFA board so its tricky for them but I think they will eventually follow suit. In Germany they have the 50 plus 1 rule which means 49% of the club is owned by the fans so it would have to go to a vote. Only RB Leipzig don't have that rule as they are owned by Red Bull so I can see them joining
PSG are suddenly the only UEFA team left in the Champions League, hmm I wonder if cynically they are waiting to win it and then throw their lot in with this Super League?

Get your point but having promotion and relegation as a jeopardy is a great way to ensure a competitive season to the end etc - I don't see removing it as a step in the right direction..........

It gets worse... in some US sports teams ensure they finish as low as they can once they cant qualify for the post season - to get better draft picks !

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which

We signed up for this because we were left with very little choice. Become a 2nd tier club, financially and competitively disadvantaged or join.

Fans might prefer the first option but after the investment of our owners, there was only one realistic option for them. We would have probably preferred to continue as of now as we're not doing too badly but that option was no longer available.
You know mate, I keep playing this out looking for a positive from our perspective.

I can't, wrong is wrong - call it what it is.......
